The Rove Affair: How Many Book Deals Are In the Works?

In regards to the Karl Rove Dem and MSM (same thing) created “scandal”, I have to believe there is at least one book deal in the works. With Ms. Miller deciding to spend time in jail, perhaps there are two. For example, Matt Cooper (Time Magazine “journalist”) had been give a blanket authorization by Karl Rove, allowing Cooper to divulge his name as a source who had advised him VP Cheney hadn’t sent Joe Wilson to Niger but Wilson’s wife had recommended him, in January 2004. However, Matt “drama boy” Cooper made a huge deal of it 2-3 days before he was to testify before the grand jury. Hmmm. I wonder why.

To add even more suspense and place his part in the “Rove affair” into a “thriller” genre, Cooper “frantically” even had his attorney call Rove’s attorney at the last possible moment (and made sure it was “leaked” to the mainstream press) to confirm an authorization that had been issued 18 months before! Was this just additional drama to add to the salability of an upcoming Cooper book? Further, Cooper has now begun to make the rounds of the television ‘news talk circuit’, as he had already inserted himself into the news. Not a bad strategy, Matt. I commend you for your chutzpah, if not your impudence.

Then there’s journalist Judith Miller. To be fair, I have heard from both conservatives and liberals that Ms. Miller is a fine and principled reporter. But, unless there is a source other than Rove (could it be the newly mentioned aide to VP Cheney?) I cannot imagine why she would choose to go to prison. Besides, I don’t believe Ms. Miller ever wrote and published her planned story—in the first place. Perhaps, she is standing on principle after all. I trust it’s not the same principle that Newsweek and Dan Rather tried to stand on when each published their entirely bogus stories. Note: If it turns out that a journalist never has to reveal his or her source, then it stands to reason that if there never was a source in the first place—no one will be the wiser. Another excellent ploy!

Maybe I’ve just become jaded over the years. But, at this juncture, I’ll be willing to bet you that Mr. Cooper has already planned the retelling of his “trials and travails” within the maelstrom of the Rove matter—to soon be published in book format. At least, it certainly sounds like it to me and he’s already done some magnificent prep work. From Cooper’s very first call to Karl Rove, he diligently worked to suck Rove into his plans. Go for it, Matt. You’ve earned it!
