If Ken Melhman paid for an abortion for his girlfriend |
|
and we either had her conscent or could keep her name out of it, I doubt anyone would have any problem discussing that. Why would his being gay different?
There is a difference between homophobic gay baiting (all the Bush is gay threads etc) and truthfully reporting that gay hating public officials are themselves gay. I have no earthly idea if Melhman is gay. The evidence is very circumstancial. But if he is gay, I fail to see why that is out of bounds.
Just like the case of Santorum's spokeman, Melhman would expose not only his own hypocrasy but that of his patron. Bush is on the record from his days in Texas as supporting that state's anti sodomy law (on the grounds that it sends a clear moral message) and against homosexuals adopting. If we are unfit to be free and have kids then just how can we be fit to run a political party? Either we are, or we aren't, fit.
It also would show Bush to be willing to lie to his base (the RR has gotten repeated private assurances that Melhman is straight). That also is a legitimate issue.

Ken Melhman paid for an abortion for his girlfriend, half of Washington would drop dead in shock.
But, your post is a goodie!

5. Maybe we should ask him! |
|
BushCo runs on lies. I see no reason why we shouldn't assume that Mehlman paid for his girlfriend's abortion. It's as likely to be true as anything else in Washington.
So I say we should ask him, and keep on asking him until he talks!
Or introduces us to his boyfriend.

That politicians deserve exactly as much respect and privacy as they give to others. If a politician wants to makes someones sexuality a matter of public policy, then by all means their sexuality should be open for discussion.

I think it's fair game to flog Mehlman on the gay issue. More than fair. This is about a guy who's been rumored to be an openly gay man representing the party with the most homophobic stances in America. Furthermore, he speaks for and defends the policies of the GOP against gays and lesbians. So yes, it's fair game to push the gay issue in the case of Mehlman, yes it is.
