Supreme Nomination Tuesday; WH wants heat off Rove
http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=politicsNews&storyID=2005-07-18T170831Z_01_N18256385_RTRIDST_0_POLITICS-BUSH-COURT-DC.XML

A Republican strategist with close ties to the White House
said Bush could announce his pick as early as Tuesday.

The strategist said the timing of an announcement had
been moved up in part to deflect attention away from a
CIA leak controversy that has engulfed Bush's top political
adviser, Karl Rove.

"It will happen any day," the strategist said of the Supreme
Court decision, adding that the aim is to "change the subject"
from Rove.

6. Might work short run and ultimately fail
It might get the Rove / WMD Vacuum coverup story off the front pages for three weeks or so, and get it out of the way so that when the indictments are handed down, there is room for lots of attention back on Rove, Libby, Cheney, and the rest of the gang.

4. So everyone will hate Bush for horrific SCt choice, not employing traitor
for a week, then it will go right back in the hopper.

Another bright move for Bush.

5. This morning he said he was going to do interviews of them
He'd have to have them all over for dinner tonight to make a nomination tomorrow. I doubt it. The last thing he wants is to make his decision seem hasty

7. The more controversal the nominee, the greater the story.
Swamping the Rove story. (Or so W. hopes).

This story AND the fact that W. has lowered the bar for those working in the WH to those who have not be CONVICTED of a crime (plus Faux Newss recent backing away from Rove), tells me W. thinks Rove will be indicted.

9. Tie the SC nominee and Rove together
Maybe the nominee and Rove might be buddy buddy. Involved in crooked deals together? Did something illegal together. Come on lets find out what the connection is when they announce.

13. Call Bush's bluff; let the oxygen get back into Rove-Cheney Plamegate
Roberts is going to be confirmed. Bet the farm on it, unless you know of some obvious skeleton.

Call Bush's bluff and frustrate him, by letting the oxygen back into Plamegate. The Dems should be absolutely quiet about Roberts nomination until the Senate hearings. There they must come down heavy with probing, searching questions, and then let the nomination slip through quietly on a party line vote.

Get the focus off the nominee and back on Rove / Cheney.
