Kerry taps veteran Democratic operative Temple to run Missouri campaign |
|
Roy Temple, a veteran Missouri Democratic operative, has been hired as state director of John Kerry's campaign in the state's suddenly competitive presidential primary, The Associated Press learned Sunday night.

"You will see quickly the importance that Sen. Kerry places on Missouri's votes," Temple told the AP on Sunday evening. He added that Kerry will campaign in Missouri after the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.

Temple also served as a campaign strategist in Mel Carnahan's winning campaigns in 1992 and 1996 and as Carnahan's gubernatorial chief of staff.
Also Sunday, Mrs. Carnahan told the AP she does not plan to endorse a candidate until after the New Hampshire primary.
Mrs. Carnahan said she has discussed the possibility of a joint endorsement with former Sen. Tom Eagleton, who was briefly the 1972 Democratic vice presidential nominee. Eagleton retired from the Senate in 1987.
