NC 'Voter Confidence' (S223 bill; independent paper ballots)IN THE BALANCE
IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS MATTER, PLEASE CALL THE MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIAL I COMMITTEE. IF YOU CAN ONLY MAKE TWO CALLS, MAKE IT REP CLODFELTEr AND SOLES:

Chairman Senator Clodfelter, 919-715-8331, danielc@ncleg.net
Vice Chair Senator Soles, 919-733-5963, rcsoles@ncleg.net

the critical message is this: 'keep the original S223 bill intact' (and forget the attachments which were created by the DRE/ voting machine companies: DETAILS BELOW):

The below is from NC Verifiable Voting:

See how the Senate Judiciary I Committee has mutilated S 223, the Public Confidence in Elections Act, and turned it into a Pandora's box of disaster. *Take Action, make sure that they hear from you* Alert and details here

The latest version of SB223 has opened up a Pandora's box, including such problems as:

1. CAMERAS IN THE POLLING BOOTH!!!!
2. Non-paper systems of verification that are inherently susceptible to malfeasance.
3. "Toilet Paper" ballots- paper ballots that are on a tiny reel that require paying voting machine companies to recount ballots that can only be counted at a rate of 4 per hour per person.

We must send a clear message again to the General Assembly:

* We want a vote on the ORIGINAL TEXT of SB223, which was crafted with bipartisan support by a study commission that spent 10 weeks looking at the issue and hearing testimony from the experts on this issue.
We do not want Pilot Programs for Experiments on our votes, and we do not want difficult to read "toilet paper ballots" that are hard to read and difficult to recount.

Our democratic legislators have wasted precious time by revising the bill that was the result of 3 months of study and testimony,S 223.

Many of the revisions being made to S 223, "The Public Confidence in Elections Act" are not in the best interests of the voter.

NO VOTE OF CONFIDENCE: Changes to the Public Confidence in Elections Act are changing my "Confidence in how NC Democrats Act".

COMPROMISE OF INTEGRITY WRONG: We are being told that we have to accept compromise in the integrity of this bill in order to please some powerful people. We cannot support these changes for the sake of compromise - because these changes put future elections at risk.

WE WANT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE VOTER: We only want what is best for the voter -
that has already been stated clearly in the report issued by the Legislative Appointed Joint Select Committee on Electronic Voting this February, 2005. No toilet paper ballots, no wide spread decertification of legal equipt, no Pilot Program Experiments. We have been experimented on enough
SHOW US THAT WE MATTER: Please show us that the everyday citizen does matter, that we should care what goes on, that our voices will be heard, that we should continue to be engaged, and that our votes will be protected, that we matter to the democratic party -

GIVE US REASON TO HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE NC DEMOCRATIC PARTY - give us our election reform the way the objective experts have prescribed it.
