Freepers fear Clement may be "Souter-in-Skirts", call her a "Bimbo"
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1445916/posts

I know nothing about her yet, but it's nice to know that the Freepers are nervous. Excerpts for those who get ill visiting Freeperville:

"Good grief, the bimbo talks about "hate crimes" as if they're legitimate... what kind of "strict constitutionalist" is THAT???"

"If the left seems okay with this selection we are in trouble."

"You are indeed correct. If they are not spewing venom in a death struggle, we have the wrong nominee. Social conservatives will not endure another "Gee, sorry, I thought he/she was conservative.""

"I'm merely stating that Roe is one of those things that is settled law, until it isn't."

"Comparing this woman to Souter is unfair. The Dems will filibuster any candidate with a clear anti-Roe record. The trick is squeezing someone through has done enough glossing about "the right to privacy" to avoid a total spaz out. We only need somebody who is slightly more conservative than O'Connor to tip this thing. No need to over-reach."

"According to the Drudge article, she passes the abortion litmus test. That is to say, she is pro-abortion."

"Any statement declaring Roe to be settled law worries me, though."

---

Maybe we should start a thread praising Clement to the skies just to put their knickers in a twistier twist.

2. Clement is a member of the Federalist Society....
that is a real bad sign. I think she will be safely right-wing.

7. Her Federalist Society membership...
...is the only real clue I have yet seen of her general philosophical outlook, and it certainly indicates that she is a conservative. This shouldn't surprise us. Bush said a million times he would appoint a conservative. Why would we expect him to do otherwise?

11. These days, belonging to the Federalist Society is no big deal.
Any ambitious Republican lawyer pretty much has to be a member -- it's more like a businessman having to be a member of the country club where all the deals are made in order to be successful. I wouldn't attribute too much meaning to it.

12. There's a difference between "Conservative" & "Raving Right Wing Loon"
If the Freepers are upset, she might have some redeeming qualities. No, I don't expect Bush to nominate a Liberal.

4. Note the comment by one who is thinking-impaired...

"If the left seems okay with this selection we are in trouble."

Instead of taking the initiative to research the facts to learn what he can about the possible nominee, this freeper apparently chooses to base his opinion on how the left reacts. The lazy route.

No doubt he uses that mindset when voting, too. If only there were a mandatory test about candidates' policies before voting...

5. They suspect her because they suspect Bush
Bush is going to say that his nominee is in the mainstream while winking at the fundies, and fundies aren't sure who Bush is lying to.

They know he's lying to somebody, and somebody is going to get screwed by a secret agenda. They just don't know if its moderate America or them.

sounds at least promising to me. I wonder if * really wants this one, or if they are just throwing her to the wolves?

13. we should have a thread of praise for this person (knowing nothing
about her myself) to simply freak the right out.

oh that would be funny, to go on and on about what a wonderful choice she is.
