I'm thinking dumbya is damned if he does
damned if he doesn't.

If he picks a right-wing wack job ala moore, jones, etc. He infuriates the left who then proceed to collect money to fight it. It takes the heat of kkkarl, but moderates than get to see how beholden dumbya is the fundies. Along w/Shaivo it just reinforces the idea. Remember, his poll numbers are sinking faster than the Titanic.

If he picks a moderate, the fundies will be furious. They need just one more to overturn Roe v Wade. Whether rehnquist goes or stays they're still one short.

Am I being optimistic here?

2. I think he will please the fundies - it will create a bigger
distraction.

Here is my advice to Busho - get a big bottle of Sevin dust.

Cause, as my Grandpappy use to say - if you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas.

And, because Sevin causes cancer it is a lose, lose for Junior.

4. I think this is a good point.
Much depends, however, on whether or not the MSN puppets tie up the next month or so discussing his pick and stop the drumbeats for justice on the outing of a covert agent. My guess is that once again they will let the American people down.

5. good point
but dumbya's pick does nothing to stop Fitz. And if I've got my facts straight (doubtful) the grand jury doesn't end until October. So that gives us a few months to get passed his fundy pick & then jump right back into kkkarl.

6. packing the bench
He's packing the bench so the court will be favorable to him in his trial (as if that matters, since they own Congress).

7. Rove's way would be to go far, far right and mobilize the base.
Get the Christian Coalition back on board, hope that they will make up in sheer volume what they lack in numbers as they declare Rove innocent and the War in Iraq God's Crusade. Indeed, if * DOESNT nominate someone with a clear anti Roe V. Wade agenda to his first vacany, he can kiss the Christian Coaltition Base goodbye, and right now he needs all the friends he can get, so * is pretty much backed into a corner.

HOWVER, the majority of the country likes Roe v. Wade. If * nominates someone anti abortion enough to satisfy Right-to-Life, he will totally freak out the average American who has always assumed that she or her sister or her best friend could go down the street and get an abortion if the unthinkable happened. Same for her husband and boyfriend and brother.

Now, if * was in a position of power, if people trusted him, they might let him get away with this, thinking "He wont let that happen". But right now, they dont trust him. They think he is up to no good, that he does not have the best interest of the American people at heart. So, if he does something that looks as if it will take away adult women's right to choose, this may well be the straw that breaks the camel's back. And while Republican Senators will initially be inclined to support any * nominee, when Republican women say "Hold on there, big fellow, Im a pro-choice Republican" the Senators will listen.

It is possible that the MSM will completely ignore Democrats warnings about Roe v. Wade and turn into WH lapdogs once again. That is the only way I can see them pulling this thing off. Because it wont be enough to nominate the judge. The Christian Coalition will expect an appointment.

11. You made the point much better than I.
In fact, I was waiting for someone else to start a thread about this.

I just see him as in a tight spot. I don't think even a moderate is going to help. Like we both said, the fundies will go apeshit. They put him in office & they expect a pay off. I can think of a half dozen moderates who will never vote repug again if they overturn Roe v Wade.

The left already saw through dumbya & that everything he's done is to satisfy big bidness (as Molly Ivins always calls is) & moderates are starting to wake up too. If he puts in a right-wing wack job they'll have even more to worry about.

8. He's Going for the Full Theocracy Package
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 05:43 PM by AndyTiedye
If he picks a right-wing wack job ala moore, jones, etc. He infuriates the left

He likes to do that. He does it on purpose. His Fundie base likes it too.

who then proceed to collect money to fight it.

Just like we collected money to fight him last year. All the money we've
got is nothing compared to having Rovian control of all the networks.

It takes the heat of kkkarl,

ding ding ding! We have a winner!

but moderates than get to see how beholden dumbya is the fundies. Along w/Shaivo it just reinforces the idea.

And so do the Fundies, which is the whole point. He doesn't care
what we think.

Remember, his poll numbers are sinking faster than the Titanic.

Remember who counts the votes.

the election's over, he can do what he wants (he's thinking, I'll bet).

12. I don't see kkkarl
controlling much of the media any more. They seem to smell blood in the water.

You're right that it doesn't matter what the left thinks, but dumbya has to worry about moderates. He can't get any of his agenda through without moderates supporting him.

As far as the heat off of kkkarl, Fitz is still there & he's not going anywhere yet. The media may not report on it, but it doesn't mean the investigation has stopped.

14. We Have to Defeat This Nomination Somehow
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 04:13 AM by AndyTiedye
I don't see kkkarl controlling much of the media any more. They seem to smell blood in the water.

If they Rethugs can steamroller this nomination through, that will all change.
The RW will look like an unstoppable force once again, and the media
whores will quickly reassert their loyalty.

You're right that it doesn't matter what the left thinks, but dumbya has to worry about moderates.

He never has before.

He can't get any of his agenda through without moderates supporting him.

He got Brown and Owen, and Pryor confirmed. Nothing moderate about
any of them.
"Moderation" consisted of accepting the Democrats' surrender on the nominations, instead of invoking the
:nuke: option

As far as the heat off of kkkarl, Fitz is still there & he's not going anywhere yet.

Can you say "Saturday night massacre"?
