Expect thermonuclear political war on SCOTUS nod
Fitzgerald's breakthroughs in TraitorGate leave the junta with no other option: they will appoint the most extreme right-wing woman judge they can find. With everything at stake they must go into maximum distraction mode. Their political bloodsport won't sway the grand jury, but its the only thing that can keep them alive as players-- at least SOME of them.

This is the battle of their lives. They are the masters at this game. They have no other choice than to go for broke.

Its time to fasten on the heavy armor.

1. I dunno
I think it is just a likely to get a reasonable appointment to show how "reasonable" they are and how all the noise about DSM and Rove is just the ravings of the radical left.

3. I agree with the original post
The MO of these guys (Rove and Bush in particular) is to talk moderation but ALWAYS solidify the base when confronted with problems. Picking an extreme wingnut like Edith Jones will do just that. That's what I expect.

4. I disagree
Wouldn't picking a moderate that the dems would embrace do wonders for the sinking approval ratings? The OBVIOUS point of this timing is to distract and appease, at least if I were in that kind of trouble, thats what I would do. The religious right is only 25 percent of the republican base. Another important factor here is that the other 25 percent is big business and corporate shareholders and the rich who exist in that circle, ie, the base Bush gives a shit about. Edith Clement is pro corporate/pro-business and pro-choice. He'll fuck the fundies in a heartbeat; that I know.

5. I agree. Get ready, cause we're going to get a real humdinger!
They are desperately trying to derail the discourse over Plame. I hope we're wrong and it's that Edith (not Jones) person.

7. Only 3 Dems opposed Roberts' Ct. of Appeals nomination
Gotta find more mud this time.
