Did Ann Coulter really call Roberts a "modern-day Souter"?
Hmm. It seems that the Conservatives are not uniformly happy about the guy.

Hell, I don't much care how pro-life he is unless he is also an activist judge on the issue.

Listening to my local conservative guy, he didn't seem to think Roberts was, as he said, passionate on Conservative issues, and it bugged him.

A couple of local liberal called up and said they thought they could live with Roberts, with drove the Conservative radio guy nuts, because he wanted a SC pick that would make us froth at the mouth. And instead he had liberals calling his conservative show, and shrugging at him.

So how much cause do we have to think that this guy is going to be an activist judge. Which, sadly, for all their whining on activist judges, is exactly what the Right wants, an activist for THEIR issues. And Roberts is apparently not exactly what they had in mind.

I find that interesting.

1. You have hit the nail on the head:
"Hell, I don't much care how pro-life he is unless he is also an activist judge on the issue. "

4. Interesting interview with Lawrence Tribe
last night. He didn't have many negative words for Roberts. Said they were friends, not close friends but friends, none the less.

Don't quite know what to make of this. Sort of agree with the above poster who seems to think Annthrax is doing a fake to make us on the left think he isn't as a bad as we might make him out to be. Even so, I haven't heard much outrage from the elected Dems.

6. That's something else my local pundit didn't like
That Roberts is a Washington insider who pals around with other Washington insiders. Which might explain why they're not outraging.

9. anything Ann the C says is not worth paying attention to...
Roberts will be a dependable company man who will quietly and thoughtfully advance the corporate aristocracy's agenda while throwing a few bones to the Christofascists.

Roberts hasn't had enough time to be an activist judge on anything.

Thats one reason they picked him, he has no long judicial or academic record to provide ammo against him.

The more ignorant foam-at-the-mouth conservative yakkers like Coulter and any number of radio mouthpieces want somebody that will stir the pot and generate something to rail about.

What I find telling is how the big religious crazy PACs immediately came right out in love with him. Somebody greased those guys behind the scenes. The conservative media types will fall in line and support Roberts as soon as the Dems and other Progressives start really attacking him.
