Wash Post Liberal Richard Cohen works hard for wingnut approval.
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 10:41 AM by Karmadillo
Of course, the Republicans are never in the grip of special interests. Only Democrats. Ever. Roberts was nominated because he is objectively the best possible justice in the entire universe. Only a Marxist child molester could disagree. No wingnut special interests at work here. Honest. And, of course, Florida "squinted hard and pronounced George W Bush its winner" in 2000. Only a feminazi would even dare to suggest a treasonous Supreme Court majority stopped the recount that would have led to Al Gore's victory. So, of course, we must roll over and accept Roberts or we'll look like an opposition party and if that happens, liberalism is doomed. Our rush to become moderate Republicans will be hopelessly damaged. Stay the course in Iraq! McCain/Bayh in 2008!

<edit>

Shortly after Sandra Day O'Connor tendered her resignation, I spoke to an important Democratic senator who confided that Bush was in a trap. I tried really hard to follow his logic, but it eluded me. It seems to me that it is the Democratic Party that has a problem. It can either come to terms with reality or appear, to much of the country, both petulant and in the grip of special interests, particularly the pro-choice lobby. In effect, the fate of this nominee was settled back in the year 2000 when Florida, for better or for worse, squinted hard and pronounced George W. Bush its winner. The chads have spoken.

1. Cohen is a "squishy" Liberal
One of those supposedly liberal columnists like David Broder, Susan Estrich etc, who nevertheless spend most of their time attacking liberals and Democrats. The Washington Post is full of these, with only E.J. Dionne being worth anything. I've written them a couple of times asking them to start publishing Joe COnason to counter some of this...I know they won;t though

5. I've asked for Molly Ivins, with the same (non) results.

2. Squinted hard?
I'm sorry, I'm a stupid liberal in the grip of special interests. What exactly does that mean?

Is he saying "squinted" as in they looked hard? Surely not right? It's exactly the opposite. Where does this bozo get off rewriting history?

I saw him on C-Span a few months back. Liberal, schmiberal. Seemed more interested in making excuses for dipshit's sham war.

3. So the 70% Who Support Roe v. Wade are a "Special Interest" Now
and the 30% who oppose it are the "real Americans" that we must pander to.

There is something terribly wrong with this picture.

4. Funny how that 2000 election and the nominee are connected
when Florida squinted and, for better or for worse, pronounced Al Gore its winner. That this nominee was a cog in the machine that made the decision for the nation, setting aside the decision of the voters in Florida, speaks much more loudly than the chads.
