ROLL CALL reports: "In a set of talking points issued Wednesday morning, the Senate Democratic leadership urged rank-and-file Senators to continue spotlighting Rove's involvement in the leaking of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity. 'A Supreme Court nominee will not distract the country from the growing credibility problem at the White House,' Democrats were told to echo."
THIS is what Rove wants! He is using himself as a distraction to slide in a conservative Justice to the Court!

Rove knows that he won't get convicted of anything (they control the media after all and they can shape this however they want) but even if he gets jail time, this will extend the reach of this pResident for DECADES.
Shrub is out in a couple of years one way or the other; this way he can extend his "legacy" for 30+ years!

WMD is Bushes legacy. Starting a Vietnam based on lies for personal reasons. I doubt he will want his legacy "extended".

This is HUGH! Rove set the whole thing up...outing a CIA operative, lying abut the yellowcake to justify an unjustifiable war, lying to the FBI, smearing a great American, endangering our security, just to take heat off of a supreme court nominee. It's all so clear.

I don't think he set up all that; I'm just saying that he is using the current scenario of being accused of revealing Plame's ID to his advantage.
Serious, think about it for a moment; there's going to be an investigation anyway and you control the media. You want a Supreme Court Justice to get in quietly; so you turn the volume up on the other to drown out the Justice nomination.

The WH has a good chance of getting Roberts confirmed, noise or no noise. The treason thing is seriously bad for the WH. They only want media attention on that if they are controlling the spin and their lies are getting trhough. So far that isn't working.

what if I'm right?
On one hand you have KKKarl Rove, and the other you have a Supreme Court Justice.
The Justice nomination gets more protection because he will be in the Federal Government a LOT longer than KKKarl.

25. Roberts will be confirmed... |
|
We don't even have the votes to prevent it. It's likely that we don't even have enough votes for an effective filibuster. The best that we can reasonable hope for is to use Roberts' nomination to highlight just how out-of-touch conservatives are with mainstream values.
If anything, it's the other way around. The Republicans could be using a Supreme Court nomination (which they know they'll win) to take the spotlight off Rove.

|
mean shit and he most likely will be confirmed if his record is clean.
You are so wrong it's not even funny. Could Bush had been more obvious about it? Harry Reid said that the nominee was supposed to be announced a week from now but for some reason he changed his mind and nominated some obscure conservative.
If Bush had it his way he would want 24/7 coverage of Roberts with headlines reading "Is Roe vs. Wade in Danger?"

With Bush as president and a massive majority of cookie-cutter republicans in the senate we are guaranteed a conservative justice to the court. The only question is which conservative justice are we going to get stuck with.

I think that Roberts is going to get in whether we like it or not. They have the majority plus the gang of 14 so even some on the Dem side. Is it bad for America? Yes. Will it be bad for a long time since it is a life appointment? Yes. But I believe we can put up a fight when Rehnquist retires. Don't yell fire all the time.
Plus Karl Rove and the whole Plame/Wilson outing I think can bring down this administration. Yelling fire about this justice to the point of panic will only give sympathy towards Bush and administration. I think we need to stick to Karl Rove like white on rice and not give up.

26. the group of 14 already set up the fall |
|
We can ask questions and grill him all we want but the Repugs have the majority and have the networks so if it looks even a little bit like delaying the filibuster word will come up. And Dems go back on their word media is on their side and oh yeah we don't have room on the front page to talk about the treasonous cretin called Rove.
It would be nice if we can effectively do both but I don't believe we have the tools and the media's attention span and no-care or kind-of-care public to do that.

does anyone in their "right" mind think that bush* might have nominated someone from the left side of aisle?
no way in hell - just look at bush*'s track record for all of his nominations - they are all conservatives - there's not one liberal one in the bunch. Granted you could make the argument that some are not as conservative than others -- but none are what I would even remotely characterized as being on the left.
the only relation Roberts nomination has to the Rove-Treason Scandal is that it was a lame attempt to change the subject.

The truth is he's on the ropes and is about to go down.

The democrats were going to be howling about Bush's SC pick no matter what, he purposely picked someone obscure, he knew the dems would start going ape shit over his nominee. (BTW, I don't think Roe v. Wade is in any danger) Not to mention, even if Roberts is confirmed they still need one more anti-Roe to overturn it.
This Rove/Libby scandal has real potential to ruin these thugs. Remember the Lewinsky? The media hype had a lot to do with the political damage our party suffered. Public opinion is really important to both parties...politics is just one big PR game.

|
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 10:53 PM by shance
Whenever things start happening for Democrats too easily it's time to take a second, third or fourth look.
Reality is, this is not going to be an easy or a rapid seeking of justice.
And when the media and or many in our government tell us to "look here", then the answer will be found in directly in the opposite place where they are begging us to look.
In addition, the Senate Democratic "leadership", (excluding those wonderful true Democrats like Conyers and Boxer and others who are leaders), is not leadership I feel has in any way earned Americans trust. They have led us astray as well.
