Rush's "mentor" who "taught him how to dress"- funny, huh? Another gay man taught Rush how to dress!!!


Arkush was not entirely complimentary. He criticizes Rush for not crediting Norm Woodruff for pulling the strings that got him into KFBK, which was where he was working when he met Ed McLaughlin. Norm gave Rush that last chance (he had been fired a number of times and fallen into obscurity while working in baseball). Norm taught Rush how to dress for success and presented him to KFBK at a key moment -- upon the firing of Morton Downey. Arkush says Rush fails to give Woodruff his just credit for his involvement in Rush's success, which if it ever does come will have to come posthomolously. Woodruff died in the mid 1980's of AIDS. He was gay.

that is why I've been a Deaniac from the start... democracy isn't easy. DU is great but if all you do is come on DU and yell the sky is falling because of Rush the sky might just fall down. But if you yell the sky is falling and say I'm doing x, y and z in order to prevent it then come to DU and say hey I think Rush is powerful and he had an impact here is how we can stop him from making an impact next time then you will have people who may not agree with you (that Rush is that powerful) but admire your effort and will assist how they can.

I don't think democracy is hopeless, in fact I think it can be more, much more than what is presented to us under this current administration. Because I believe this I've made connections in my own community, attend forums once a month, interact with DU and larger dem community in activities that I can do from, write LTTEs, much can be done if you really are concerned it just takes work.

LTTEs don't get form letters back. Furthermore seek out your local County Democratic party. If you are in a red area then the party might be small which is in my opinion a greater opportunity to have an impact. Then letter writing campaigns within the group are great because it is not just one person writing. You need to seek it out. Talk is great but you also need to organize and if you don't like the party structure in your area still join and attend and seek out the ones that are more like you.

Are you hosting a Conyers DSM meet up this weekend? If not why not? Are there others in your area? There is so much to do beyond just talking.

Anyway hopefully my posts have maybe motivated you to look at your own community and see what you can do more before going off on rants of why Dems are Losing.

I was surprised they discussed Renewable Energy and an Apollo type project (http://www.apolloalliance.org/), which is an issue that win some voters for us. It just makes too much sense to not invest in Renewable Energy. It creates jobs, it helps the environment, it reduces our dependence on Foreign oil, and it improves national security.

Dean did a great job saying what the Democratic Party would do: balanced budget, jobs, universal health care. I think he needs to start to emphasize that we don't need to wait until 2008 to start things in the right direction. We can take control of the House and Senate in 2006 and start helping Americans then.
