Poll: Virginia Senate Warner leads Allen 48-44
If current Democratic Governor Mark Warner took on incumbent Republican Senator George Allen in 2006--a new poll indicates Allen would be in trouble. A new Rasmussen poll gives Warner a 48-44 percent lead.

I hope that Warner decides to run for the Senate rather than launching a long shot bid for President in 2008--he has plenty of time later on.

3. I hope he runs
Those dumb freepers we're talking about this poll and we're saying the people of Virginia we're too dumb to know the difference between Mark and John Warner. I think the DSCC should ask him to run, it would be a good pickup for us.

5. Agree
I dislike George Allen intensely. Warner would be a great senator.

8. What kind of machines will be in place in 2006?
Isn't that going to be the determining factor?

13. And Right Now the Plan is No Paper Trails
Virginia is in the process of buying those machines without a paper trail. Hearings are going to be held about this issueon August 22 in Richmond at the General Assembly building. Hope we, who want a paper trail, can prevail.

4. exxcccellent--and I agree with you
The rumor is that he has an executive personality, and would have difficulty with having to deal with legislative processes, but I think the experience would be very useful for any presidential candidate.

11. You're right about the executive personality. Warner has said that he may
run for governor again in 2009 instead of going to the Senate. But this Rasmussen poll is shocking to me, as I thought Allen was basically unbeatable in Virginia. It just shows you how popular Warner is in Red Virginia. A 63% approval rating for Warner is remarkable. I think Warner wants to get on the ticket in 2008 as a Vice-Presidential nominee to Hillary (assuming that Hillary will run, which I think she will). But I tell you what, if I'm Warner, I give that Senate race another look. Taking out one of the GOP's main 2008 White House aspirants would make Warner a superstar within the party.

7. I could get on board with that. I loathe Allen and would love to see him
taken out. He's an empty suit who will carry water for the fascist agenda and use the Christians every step of the way to do it.

Like a better spoken version of Bush, but no smarter and no better.

It would also put Allen down a peg for his own run in 2008.

If Warner cares about this nation, he would do exactly that.

9. If he runs, he'll never be President
Personally, I always felt Chuck Robb made a mistake in 1988 when he ran for Senate instead of running for President.

I just can't see why Warner would want to be a Senator, especially since the Democrats are almost certain to remain in the minority for the duration of his first term. Warner's Senate seat would never be safe, and he'll have a voting record that could be used against him if he ever ran for President.

10. but doesn't one term as a governor offer too little experience?
I know it has been done before, my political hero--Jimmy Carter. But he did have a tumultuous term.
