Why Can't We Have a SC Justice that has Represented the Average American? |
|
With the exception of Ruth Bader Ginsbgerg’s work at the ACLU, can anyone tell me of any Supreme Court Justice that has actually represented the average American citizen? Again with the nomination of John Roberts, we have a guy that has spent his life in the legal profession as a political and corporate insider. From my observation, he has been completely out of touch with the people, almost from the time he earned his law degree. Here’s his “stellar” political career as a “lifelong court insider”. I’m not too sure this is what our Founding Fathers had in mind.
- Clerk for Chief Justice Rehnquist - Special assistant to AG under Reagan - Associate counsel in Reagan White House - Solicitor General under Bush I - Corporate lawyer for the likes of ENRON, Pfizer, Proctor and Gamble, Mobile Oil, 3M, Merck, etc.
If confirmed, there will be only one Supreme Court Justice that has any experience representing the average American citizen. That concerns me more than his views on abortion, or state religion. Why not nominate someone who represented Joe or Jane “Six-pack” in their recent divorce proceedings? Why not nominate a lawyer that did “pro-bono” work for a low income citizen whose daughter was injured, or killed due to corporate malfeasance? Why not nominate someone who recently represented a criminal defendant that was wrongly accused? Why not nominate someone who recently defended “Mary Jane American” in a case involving her rights to check-out a library book without the FBI looking up her skirt?
Hell, why does it have to be a lawyer at all? Nothing in the Constitution that says they have to be lawyers. Why not a “Washington outsider” beholden only to the truth.
Perhaps what has been said is really true. “We have the best justice money can buy”.

But, sadly, in this day of corporate hegemony, no one who fights for the little guy or Average American will ever be nominated, let alone approved for the SC, or any Federal Court for that matter. And, even sadder still, this isn't just the fault of the Bush ReThugs. "Our" DLC Dems have been right up there with them aiding and abetting the rape, plunder, and pillage by the multi-nationals.

Once they bust the labor unions (and don't think they won't bust them)...the "Freakers" will be more than happy to compete for the $1.21 an hour job, as long as gays can't get married and they get a $600 tax-cut.
That's why everytime I hear a Puke saying "it's your money" I point out that
a. "your money" is $600 to the average American (quickly eaten up by inflation and increased property taxes), and
b. "your money" is $275,000.00 to Dick Cheney. If it's "supply side econ", someone please tell me how many jobs has ole Dicky created with that $275,000.00? and no, DEFENSE LAWYERS DON'T COUNT!

He doesn't give a GD about the average American, he cares about his class, the super rich. Read book on the Bushes, "American Dynasty", for a sober, insightful look into the family Bush.

6. We Are Rapidly Becoming Brazil |
|
While we smile and dig harder for the bottom of the barrel.
Soon we'll have a tiny little percentage of people with all the money, and the rest in abject poverty (like Brazil).
Damn if I find it hard to believe we aren't there already.

accident and personal injury lawyers are the absolute cream of the crop. They care about the common man and are extraordinarily smart and talented. They have to be to stay in the field. Even better, let's get one from small town USA!!!
