Oklahoma To Install Touch-screen Voting Machines
http://www.kotv.com/main/home/stories.asp?whichpage=1&id=87199

State election officials say they'll use $33-million in federal money to install touch-screen voting machines by next year.

Election Board Secretary Mike Clingman says the government provided the money in response to the controversy in Florida over the 2000 presidential election.

Clingman says the new machines will probably use the same kind of ballot, but will include scanners designed to allow the blind and others with disabilities to cast a secret ballot for the first time.

Clingman says the state is working with federal officials to determine whether all of the state's 2,400 precincts must have the new machines

2. What are we going to do here, people? We have got to keep these
things out of as many states as possible.

3. We just switched to the Diebold Accuvote-TSX in Virginia
Any idea what kind they'll have in Oklahoma?

After training and working with them, I can tell you they are more hackable that you'd imagine. I once thought BBV was tinfoilhat worthy... :scared:

4. I don't know the "brand"
but the whole state has optical scan.

a paper ballot that a person marks and is scanned by machine.
They have actually been very accurate in the past. The latest example was the Wes Clark/John Edwards recount. The recount was almost exactly the same as the original totals.

5. Why the Hell would they bother with Oklahoma?
When was the last time they voted for a Democrat? Even the "Democrats" who occasionally DO get elected there are to the right of most Republicans (i.e. Brad Carson), so why do they need electro-fraud?

6. It's not only about cheating,
it's about profit too. The more machines, the more $$$$

Plus they can pad national popular vote totals in red states.

7. Well, I remember that Clark won that primary......
without free publicity. I don't think the Powers-that-be liked that very much.

Couldn't have these kinds of Clark victories going unchecked....especially a victory generated solely by massive grassroots support.

8. This is is unfortunate
and it doesn't sound good, but electorally speaking, I really don't think it makes a difference in OK. A large percentage of the population there seems brain dead.

9. If their local news is anything like Dallas'...
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 05:06 PM by rainbow4321
everything that is happening right now may get a 2 second blurb at the end of the news cast...

Dallas' top stories on the 10 pm news the other night:
1> it's hot outside
2>grocery stores will now laser infomation on fruits' and veggies' skins instead of those tiny stickers they use now (they went out and interviewed shoppers on this "controversy")
3> it is still hot outside.
