So what did Wilson supposedly Lie about?
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 03:33 PM by booley
I keep hearing cons and freepers claiming wilson lied.

But he didn't lie about Saddam not getting yellow cake from Niger. And he didn't lie about his wife being a covert agent who's cover was blown becuase of the Novak article.

yet I keep hearing Cons saying that wilson lied and so he can't be believed.

But hey never bother to elaborate on what he supposedly lied about.

Is this just another case of repubs repeating a lie themselves over and over to make it seem true?

1. I'm not clear on this either but...
...it's freepers saying it so clarity most likely isn't the objective. It's just more shit to muddy the water.

2. Of course it's a case of refucks repeating a lie they themselves made
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 04:21 PM by kenny blankenship
they say Wilson claimed that Cheney sent him. Bullshit. Wilson's column in the NYTimes said Cheney requested information from CIA and that CIA sent him. They (Refucklicans) omit that part about the CIA in order to deny that Cheney authorized him, something Wilson has never said. It's a lie like a child would think up.

It is a LIE and it is a calculated, coordinated lie that all Refucklican water carriers in the media are obligingly helping Refucklicans to repeat in front of the public. Occasionally the Refucks have been semi-called on it, but no one dares to cross them openly. See this piece at the Daily Howler. Scroll down to where you see the heading SPECIAL REPORT: Equal But Opposite Panders (Fri. July 22nd 2005)--soon to be archived here.

Here is what Wilson actually said:

In February 2002, I was informed by officials at the Central Intelligence Agency that Vice President Dick Cheney's office had questions about a particular intelligence report. While I never saw the report, I was told that it referred to a memorandum of agreement that documented the sale of uranium yellowcake — a form of lightly processed ore — by Niger to Iraq in the late 1990's. The agency officials asked if I would travel to Niger to check out the story so they could provide a response to the vice president's office.

After consulting with the State Department's African Affairs Bureau (and through it with Barbro Owens-Kirkpatrick, the United States ambassador to Niger), I agreed to make the trip. The mission I undertook was discreet but by no means secret. While the C.I.A. paid my expenses (my time was offered pro bono), I made it abundantly clear to everyone I met that I was acting on behalf of the United States government.

Wilson was paid for his out of pocket, and gathered information for CIA, who were responding to a request from the Vice President's office. Remember that Vice President who kept saying "Saddam Hussein had reconstituted his nuclear capability"? The one that has been out of sight for the last couple of months. Anyways, this is what Wilson said and what the Fascist Party and their corporate media conduits have been trying to twist into some kind of erroneous claim by Wilson that Dick Cheney PERSONALLY sent him.

3. RWingers deliberately misinterpreted what Wilson said- link explains
They are trying to claim that Wilson alleged Cheney had sent him to Niger. Wilson never said that. He said that CIA sent him to Niger in order to clear up some questions that his CIA boss said were raised by Cheney's office. Shameful the way these Repubs and willing media have twisted Joe Wilson's statements around in order to discredit him. Here is a link to a good article explaining it all.

6. what's really funny is that has nothing to do with
his findings in Niger, let alone blowing his wife's cover. I have heard a few talking heads saying, 'he lied about who sent him, he probably lied about what he found.' OK, sure guys :eyes:

17. This is so revoltingly familiar...deflect all attention away from the
truly obvious wrongdoing, proclaim yourselves to represent the 'ethical, moral blah, blah, blah party', lie about your opponents, and deflect attention, and delay, until some other media story is cooked up, and its dropped, and people have a very negative impression of the innocent!! Look at what was done to Rather, to Kerry, to whore McCain...etc, etc, etc throughout Rove's career...Dirty politics is one thing, but to parade as truth tellers and lie so gallingly just really takes the pale.

because, Wilson didn't lie. Freepers are always talking the talking points.

7. He lied about NOTHING
The neocons are just all on the same page with their usual strategy: If EVERYONE tells the same lie, the masses can't help but believe it, no matter how absurd it is.

Wilson said there was no yellow-cake sold to Iraq--hence no WMDs. There WAS no yellow-cake sold to Iraq, neither were there WMDs. End of story.

12. i thought cheney asked the CIA to follow up on the yellow cake claims?
so the CIA got someone (wilson) to go to Niger. cheney didn't ask wilson to go but he did ask the cia to follow up on the claims. this is mencing words as far as i understand it.

25. And if they say so, you're just going to believe them blindly?
I suppose you still believe cheney when he said there were WMDs and he knew where they were?

I think they would probably LIKE you to think it's such a jumbled mess now. Then you'll just throw up your hands, say "pox on both their houses" and stop caring. Fine. You go ahead and do that. The rest of us don't mind exposing the truth and repeating it as far as the eye can see and the ear can hear. You might also want to check the Media Matters website for LOTS of debunking of the lies these people tell. And just in case you think it's just another "looney liberal," Media Matters was started by David Brock, a onetime wrong-winger and Clinton persecutor-saboteur who saw the light, and came in from the dark side. Souls CAN be saved, you see...

26. Yes, a Kerry advisor AFTER he'd written his op/ed piece.
I think I'd probably have gone toward the Kerry side after I saw what the bad guys had done to trash MY spouse...

BTW, lest ye forget - the guys you've referred to (whom you obviously believe more than you do Wilson), like cheney and tenet (and bush, too) are POLITICIANS also. Those individuals who elect to believe only one side despite multitudinous evidence to the contrary also show their lack of intelligence.

14. He didn't lie was what you meant to say, surely?
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 04:54 PM by kenny blankenship
Not "he didn't exactly lie." The people EXACTLY lieing are people like John McCain who accuse Wilson of saying things he did NOT say.
They can't deny that Cheney's office asked CIA to investigate the Niger memorandum. They can't deny Wilson was sent by CIA to do this. So they LIE and say Wilson claimed something like Cheney sent him personally.

WHAT FILTHY LIARS! Don't you get sick of them?

"Other intelligence", totally independent from Wilson's intel gathering about uranium sales, found that the Niger document was a crude forgery.

WHAT LIARS! They put the uranium claim in the state of the union address ANYWAY. They refuse to explain it, and now they admit that it shouldn't have been in there. No one will take RESPONSIBILITY for its insertion into the SOTU. What a bunch of lying children!

"It turns out that his wife might have been the one who authorized his trip."

She authorized his trip? "it turns out" Oh really? Produce your evidence! RIGHT NOW.

He didn't lie but he wasn't completely honest either
Your evidence! Right NOW.

Don't you get sick of supporting lying WARCRIMINALS? Having our country's armed forces associated with oil grabbing wars of aggression and mass murder launched on a pretext of lies?

You can back up the things you say CAN'T YOU?
You're not just another LIAR apologizing for the murdering Fascist in the WHite House with any lie that looks convenient or confusing, are you?
