Cheney tells Pentagon to prepare plan to attack Iran - including nuclear
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 10:48 AM by cyberpj
In case you missed this, posted yesterday - Deserves NOMINTATION.

Is it me? Or are they stepping up EVERYTHING right now in case they get caught and thrown out? It's like they're shoving all plans on the table at once and there's too much to fight back against!

The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons.

Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States.

Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing -- that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack -- but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.

That is the truly heinous part of this post. That no one will step up to the plate and put their so called 'career' on the line for the lives of innocent people.

This makes me sick.

Roger that!
Would it not be good for one's career for a General to step forward and say NO? I would consider it a badge of honor to defy anyone in the bush administration. If just one General stepped forward and called them out his career could not possibly be ruined.

5. Don't want to appear "unpatriotic" do they.... then again, this
sort of takes attention away from the fact that Cheney's office was involved with the Plame case.

10. Hmmm...
... while I'd be the last person to try and defend that scumbag Cheney, I should imagine that the Pentagon is often drafting and renewing battle (attack, or whatever) plans for many countries, including Iran. I mean, that's what these guys do... much as I hate to say it.

Sigh :(

14. Yep, there is a group that does just that.
We should have battle plans for attacks on most countries as well as nuclear war.

Scientists worried by riot control ray gun
20 Jul 2005 18:00:10 GMT

Source: Reuters

LONDON, July 20 (Reuters) - Scientists are questioning the safety of a Star Wars-style riot control ray gun due to be deployed in Iraq next year.

The Active Denial System weapon, classified as "less lethal" by the Pentagon, fires a 95-gigahertz microwave beam at rioters to cause heating and intolerable pain in less than five seconds.

The idea is people caught in the beam will rapidly try to move out of it and therefore break up the crowd.

But New Scientist magazine reported on Wednesday that during tests carried out at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, participants playing the part of rioters were told to remove glasses and contact lenses to protect their eyes.

In another test they were also told to remove metal objects like coins from their clothing to avoid local hot spots developing on their skin.

(snip)
The magazine said a vehicle-mounted version of the weapon named Sheriff was scheduled for service in Iraq in 2006 and that U.S. Marines and police were both working on portable versions.

16. hmmm...
they totally phuck up an illegal war on Iraq, which was a basically castrated militarily before we went in.

Now they want to play with the big boys? A nuclear action on a Euro/Russian Continent? Iran will not roll over. Neither will our very former allies.

Someone call a doctor... this criminal cabal needs a full mental evaluation.

20. Was Pentagon given directive from gw*dipshit to do what Cheney tells em?
Constitution doesn't make Vice-President commaner-in-chief.

I haven't found anything that states making war is part of Vice-President's duties.
