I broke down and turned on Imus this a.m. Tweety was on talking about NH
He said that Kerry would win, but he thought Dean would come in second and Lieberman would be out after NH because he wouldn't want to chance losing in the Connecticut Primary. He blathered on about Dean and all those "kids" supporting him who will be so disappointed but said that Dean was a real guy ...etc., etc. Then he said that Edwards looked good to the crowds because he was playing like a "trial lawyer" the down home Southern guy pleading his case to the jury.

Imus said his wife his a friend of Theresa Heinz because they both work on vegan issues and the environment. Imus said his wife is a Repug but she likes Theresa and they share some interest or something in Heinz foods. (don't know what that was about). However they showed a terrible picture of Heinz wife while they were yammering on about this. Theresa is attractive and the pix made her look like a librarian from a 30's movie, glasses and hair in a bun or something.

Tweety looked like he had been out in a bar all night after getting a cheap haircut. His face was blotchy, he looked overweight and his hair was a mess with pieces sticking out at all lengths.

I thought you Tweety fans here on DU might enjoy this "catty report" of mine about his appearance on Imus playing the "do you know the same people I know and ain't it grand we both know everyone who's important to know in the political world." It was the kind of a disgusting "name dropping fest" that Tweety and Imus love to do. But that's the way it is in the media today.

It's snowing here with an ice storm coming so I needed a little gossip
to start my day. :D passing it along.

1. Mrs. Heinz Kerry is a vegan?
Are you sure about that?

6. What I heard is that she and Imus wife work together on vegan issues....
But, Imus mumbles around. Maybe Imus wife is a vegan consultant for Heinz foods. I kind of got the impression it had to do with the food business.

2. Ugh..
I saw Imus on TV the other morning and they were making fun of Theresa Heinz that day to, saying she looked like a shrew or something. That show is like Howard Stern without the sex.

3. My observations
Scanning thru the channels when I caught it...

Tweety said Kerry's wife would be a dynamite first lady. Actually said a LOT of complimentary things about her...I was really surprised.

He mentioned Kerry, Dean, Edwards and Lieberman but didn't say a word about Clark....at least while I was watching.

I took the whole sequence pretty much as you did (name dropping fest) but I also saw it as another exercise in media "king-making".

Did you see it that way too?

4. he praised Dean to the high hills
He actually said his son is a big Dean supporter.

And that he's sorry he played the scream speech so much.

Of course, you'd never know that if you watched his show.

9. Ironic that "Chris the Screamer" has an opinion either way...
...about the Dean Scream.

Swear to God, it's difficult to tell the difference between the real Chris Matthews and the parody of him (played by Darrell Hammond) on SNL...

5. Matthews did make some points I think.
Like, 'Local guy wins. Big deal.', re: Kerry, seeming to accept current consensus polling.

And he sounded like Dean winning would not be so much 'local guy' as 'clear anti-Iraq war critic'. 'Where are these other guys on the war? Does anybody know?'. Like that.

What is the matter with Tweety? He seems insane to me.

10. You missed Imus and Russert talking earlier about AWOL...
with Imus calling Clark a "creep," and saying that W may have missed a few Guard meetings, but attended enough to learn to fly an airplane. Fineman was also on earlier, and praised Dean as the best and clearest deliverer of his message, and Edwards as a campaigner. All seemed to agree that Kerry, of a more traditional political school, had a well-oiled operation rolling along. Imus said that he would vote for Kerry, but none of the other Democrats, against Bush.

12. There is no one on the globe who is creepier than don imus
That guy is just fucking creepy looking and creepy sounding and he has creepy ideas and he's just fucking creepy.

Clark is a Gentleman with more integrity and class and intelligence than Imus could ever even dream of having. God that Imus is one creepy fuck.

Funny way to start the day! I've never heard Imus and I don't get Hardball (altho I know who both those guys are) on my cable and that is a funny analysis of them.

I have to admit I almost agree with his prediction...Kerry/Dean toss up for first place and Clark/Edwards 2nd and 3rd with Lieberman close behind. I hope Lieberman drops out then.

And while the media will be pointing all cameras at Dean for "YYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" Part Deux, you will only see a happy guy displaying his enthusiasm in a more moderate fashion. (Sleeves still pushed up over his elbows I hope!)

Then they'll have to gossip about something else...hmmmmmmmmm what could they play over and over and make a big sensational deal about this time? Could it be that everyone is once again following Dean by putting their wives on TV in the last few days? I remember DUers saying how tacky and prop-like he was using Judy (despite her saying it was not...but who cares what SHE thinks?)...but when Mrs. Kerry/Edwards/Clark and Clark sons do the TV thingy...it's NEW AND REAL! HAH!

18. Looks like "hat head" to me (it's cold up there), but could be "bed head"
(Imus said Tweety looked like he'd just rolled out of bed.) AEI Bill Schneider's been sporting a fur hat, and Tweety interviewed Dean's brother wearing a Nordic sweater with silver buttons. Fineman arrived on Imus in a red fleece jacket my daughter calls a "fuzzy," and Imus had added what he said was his wife's red scarf to his usual cowboy hat. Either they've all been visited by the "Queer Eye" guys, or they're enjoying playing dress-up up there in NH, just like flight-suit man --

grungy looking. Not the studio groomed usual performance. And, as I said he looked like he'd had a bad night in the bar.

20. Matthews has got to be getting a lot of blow back from his over the top
assault on Dean's speech and the endless playing of the tape.

How long can NBC and company pretend any semblance of neutrality when they have been so obvious in trying to take down Dean? I wrote a nasty letter suggesting their only allegiance was to their corporate masters and the highest bidders. Brokaw was out trying to put out the fires.

21. Tweety is a Dean supporter for the nomination.
I'm not saying he's a dem. It's just that he wants Dean to win the nom, and has from the start.
