Listening to C-SPAN, Republicans would give up all our freedoms...
in a New York second. Those "people" hate our guts and would blow us up. Whatever freedoms we have to give up for security is OK with the Republicans. If you don't have anything to hide, you should have no problem with the cops searching your bags. Your freedom is worthless to these people. That's what Republicans seem to stand for...

1. That's because they hate America.
They don't get that people died for those freedoms. How they can think that they are the ones that are patriotic is beyond me. It takes more than waving a flag.

4. Ask them if they would be comfortable trusting Democrats - if Dems

were in power, would they still feel the same about sacrificing their freedoms.

Ask them what they would blame terrorist acts on - they always say that terrorists hate us for our freedom.

They always say that Americans are superior to people in other countries. Ask them in which ways. Morality, peace seeking, honoring treaties, preserving the earth, spreading brotherly love, making sure no one is hungry, treating prioners according to established rules, creating jobs, enabling people to keep their homes and credit in times of crisis?

See how illogical juvenile minds can be?

They are followers and swallowers. They cannot envisage anything being used against them if it is run by republicans. Lt's all hold hands and follow our leader because if he's American he must be good. Swallowers as in unlimited naivety and big gullets for lies.

They have never read anything in their lives to spark the caution buttons. They have no vision. They are incable of linking and reading between lines.

Their reasoning might be hopeless.

6. Bullshit...
...more people die in the US each MONTH of the following causes than have EVER died here due to terrorist attacks.

The various illnesses and subsequent health care concerns caused due to pollutants in our air and water...

Car accidents...

Diseases where the mortality rate could be reduced by preventative, universal health care...

Autoerotic asphyxiation

Domestic violence

Accidental death during elective medical procedures

So screw that. No, we do NOT have to give up "some" freedoms...

9. I hope you are kidding..... giving up freedom does not equate to
restoring peace in the world and removing the basic motivations of governments... which are control and suppression of dissent.

http://www.veteransforpeace.org/Franklin_Jefferson_092703.htm

>>My colleague, Ben Franklin, said it best: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety."

Our group, Veterans for Peace, wants to thank these representatives for their courage under fire and willingness to give up their political safety for an essential set of principles.

I start with a personal anecdote as a way to thank these brave voices and to speak out against the Patriot Act on this occasion.

In 1964, at age 17, I enlisted for a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force. Like each of my fellow veterans before you, I took the following oath: "I, Paul Saint-Amand, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same ..."

Who would have thought 40 years later I would invoke the authority of this oath once again to join others in defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

Veterans for Peace has joined with the ACLU to challenge the rationale and implementation of Patriots Act I and II. We do so because our fellow veterans who have seen combat first-hand have given us a simple truth: There is no safety in fear. So we distrust those who would offer us fear as their treacherous antidote to foreign terror. Such abuse of power is in itself a type of domestic terrorism.<<

10. so, which of MY freedoms do you steal so that YOU feel safer?
It seems that people are quite willing to give up the freedom of other people. This is what happened in Nazi Germany. Group by group were deemed a problem...no one stood up for them. Eventually of course the freedoms of everyone was curtailed and the population suppressed, but then it was too late. One of the first things Hitler did was get rid of liberal clergymen. Sound familiar? They were either tossed out of congregations or attacked visciosly for their views. But no matter, the population felt safer.

If YOU want to feel safer then don't take away my rights to do it. What rich Repukes are doing is buying into gated communities, then they rob the population of their rights, all the while feeling quite safe in their walled fortresses.

I'm very pessimstic about the whole thing. I believe we are on a slide into total fascism which cannot be stopped. Its inevitable because of the inertia of the politics of hell.

and defend a popular GOP talking point.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, you should lurk for awhile and get a feel for how things work here at DU.

There is a certain decorum, etiquette and political correctness here on these boards.

Not to mention that as you say "you are new to politics" you may want to test the waters and bone up on political subjects before diving in head first.

Politics, no matter where you practice them, can be a very a passionate subject.

You may get turned off before you even get started.

You probably do not understand that there are people that come to this board to disrupt discussions.

They are called freepers and trolls, they usually are aligned with the opposition (GOP) and only want to cause trouble here.

They can usually be spotted easily with a low number of posts.

So if you get "Flamed" by making statements like the one you just posted with a low count, you may be mistaken for one of these opposition operatives.

So take no offense by some of the comments you are about to receive, unless of coarse you are a freeper troll.

Welcome to DU! RR

:hi:

for the police state republicans.

PNAC, look it up, learn it...terror was the pretext for total control.

7. It's like they all woke up in some other country
and they are SHOCKED, SHOCKED, I tell you, that there is a Constitution and a Bill of Rights and Dayum! You mean EVERYBODY here is free? Even people not exactly like ME?

I say they if they want to lose freedoms so badly, name their evil Third World Dictator, and we'll give them all a one way ticket to the un-free country of their choice.

As for me, I believe in what THIS country is supposed to mean: LIBerty and Justice for all. That's why I'm a LIBeral!

There's really no disguising it. Their legislation is so bad they might as well be using 1984 as their example of a model society. It's all grossly unconstitutional.
