Lil' Timmy Russert Is a GOP/GE/BushCo Ass Puppet
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 10:44 AM by Vinnie From Indy
Lil' Timmy Russert is happy as a pig in shit today because he can go back to shilling for his BushCo masters and get away from all that messy Rove business. He is having a ball slapping around Dick Durbin about the SCOTUS nomination. They should change the name of the program to "The Bleating of the Press".

When will the Democrats learn to throw punches? Durbin was getting attacked by Lil' Timmy about his comparison a few weeks back of GITMO interrogators and NAZIS and he dutifully lowered his head and sputtered an apology. He should have disregarded the question and screamed bloody murder about the recent threat of a veto by Smirky on a bill allowing Congress to investigate GITMO practices and past abuses. He should have then followed that with an aggressive condemnation of the Pentagon's refusal to follow a Federal Court order to release the Abu Graihb abuse photos. The lack of preparation by most Democrats appearing on these set-up shows is appalling.

Also, it looks like RoveGate will get only a passing mention by Lil' Timmy this week.

23. GIGO is inaccurate
Garbage in, garbage out, as used in your response, appears to mean that the watcher will inevitably start to regurgitate whatever nonsense they are exposed to on these propaganda shows masquerading as news. That is not an accurate description of the effect of these shows on my ability to understand that they are lying and engaged in delivering propaganda and I am sure the situation is the same for millions of other people that watch programs like MTP or George Snuffelupaguss's show.

I disagree with the thought that there is no value in watching these shows. I believe that all Americans should see firsthand how putrified and corrupt the corporate media has become. Just as we have fire fighters perched atop towers in our forests to spot trouble before it becomes an unmanageable inferno, so too should caring Americans make themselves aware of the efforts of the BushCo regime and their media pimps to use the awesome power of television to literally enslave and deceive millions of people. One can be certain that the people that saw the concentration camps in Germany at the end of the war have a deeper and more compelling understanding of the horror that was the NAZI regime than a person surfing the 'net and reading blogs about the Holocaust.

Except for the speed of light, absolutes like the one you advocate are almost always absolutely wrong. Just a thought to chew on.

25. Don't blame the dictionary.
I just supplied the definition of the term.

And I beleive we are dealing, in terms of the Bushamaniacs, with the idea that if you spew enough garbage, and let it pile up high enough, that the unfortunate recipients of that garbage will at some point mistakenly identify the top-most layer as good topsoil.

6. To put it less offensively
turn off the TV if you don't like the program.

Russert is a right-wing shill so stop watching. If enough people stop watching the trash on TV, the advertisers will insist on different programming.

I stopped watching right-wing TV shortly after the 2000 election and have never regretted it. If the 50% of the country (or more) that is Democratic would stop watching TV news commentators, some of them would lose their jobs.

Watching these guys is like being addicted to abuse. Give yourself a break. Pick up a good book or get on DU. Join Netflix and start watching DVDs. Go for a walk. Spend happy time with your family or friends. Find something positive to fill the void. You will be much happier if you do. It's masochistic to watch guys like Russert.

9. Unfortunately MTP is an opinion molder,
and if you want to understand how people can come up with the weird view of what is going on, it is useful to monitor what Timmy, Rush and their ilk are saying. I understand the unwillingness to subject oneself to their spin and lies, but if Liberals are to win back power, we have to understand the information that significant parts of the population are processing while deciding for whom to vote.

14. Totally agree, if we all stopped watching Fox and Meet the Press
and Tweety, and only watched Olberman's show (who had a wonderful, classy, thoughtful, and dignified interview with Joe Wilson the other night) their ratings would go down.

I always hear this nonsense about how we have to monitor what the other side is saying, news flash, the other side is saying nothing, they are just lying 24/7. Watch C-span to see what the other side is saying, you can see the Republicans for Voldemort up there on the floor spewing lies and obstructing our democracy in real time. Stop watching these other shows. I'll bet half of their ratings are Democrats watching with horror as they slime and lie and attack our Senators, House members, and spokespeople.

The other part of it is, I wish our Senators, House members, and progressive pundits would refuse to appear on these programs unless they are willing to become 'fair and balanced', otherwise what does it accomplish. If they had no one to smear and interrupt, even the Republicons would stop watching, no more blood sport, they lose interest. We can shut down these kinds of programs simply by exercising our will and NOT watching them. They need us to watch for their advertising dollars. Seems like a plan no?

But I am still watching the 'new and improved' WH press briefings where they grill little Snottie McClellan/ Chummy McSharkbait about each new revelation in the Plame case. Now that's entertainment.

17. You are right.
Dems make up a good portion of the audience on these shows. The Republicans I know watch a lot of sports and occasionally grab a couple of minutes of news. If they were really interested and better informed, they would be Democrats.

Stop watching guys. You are just showing how masochistic you are.

18. Its neither masochistic nor nonsense to know
what is in the information pipeline. It is crucial to being able to formulate an on target, persuasive counter message. Don't watch if you don't want to, but it is not all that constructive to disparage fellow DUers' motivations and preferences.

20. So how about a compromise
You watch for us and report their lies. Also report on who is sponsoring that shit so we can be sure to let the sponsors know that they won't get our business.

Not watching doesn't change the ratings unless you are a Nielson family. If you want to change the program, fix the sponsors!

Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 10:54 AM by flordehinojos
traveled from the pushing of his father's broom to his television studio bromide... but from the shallowness of a broom to the bromide of a tv studio --- just about the same sense of depth perception exists and Lil'Timmy Russert just moves the dirt around from his chair under the tv lights.
can't expect anything different from him.............................

8. Actually I thought Dick Durbin did a fine job today
I don't think either Republicans or Democrats like Tim Russert much, so maybe that means he is doing his job?

That said, his show sucked today 4/5 of it was Roberts (who is already boring me to tears), 1/5 The Plame Leak...

10. A point well made> Pentagons's refusal...
He should have then followed that with an aggressive condemnation of the Pentagon's refusal to follow a Federal Court order to release the Abu Graihb abuse photos and video's of Iraqi soldiers soddamizing kids with shrieking audi to boot!

All Durbin had to do what bring up to Russert what you have just stated here - Why Durbin didn't stand his ground is mind boggling - !

12. Yeah, that would have tied in well with the Roberts nomination topic
:sarcasm:

Hey I think those photos should be released too...but having Dick Durbin talk about the torture that goes on in Abu Graihb has got to be the worst possible way for Americans to hear about this.

Not one word mentioned today on last minute withholding of pictures and videos at Abu. I guess pictures of children and women being sexually molested would be hard to spin out of.

11. MTP airs here opposite This Weak
and today they had David Gergen on the panel, who said the questions will eventually go to the same place as Watergate, a la "What did the President know, and when did he know it".

I just don't watch Press the Meat any more.

and made Russert look bad for acting like a "prosecutor." I was sorry that Durbin was hasseled to apologize for his Gitmo comments but when Russert confronted him again with his giving an apology he handled it very well and reaffirmed that he felt that what has gone on in Gitmo needs to be investigated. He's quiet and softspoken but if one listened carefully to what he said he really was good at handling Russert and getting Democratic points across.
