1. yes

McClellan has won rave reviews from the pharmaceutical industry for his efforts to streamline the FDA drug review process and help reduce costs for manufacturers. But consumer groups have criticized him as being too industry-friendly.

Before being appointed to the FDA, McClellan served on Bush's Council of Economic Advisers. His younger brother, Scott, is Bush's press secretary.

Bush had hoped to get a big political boost after he signed the Medicare prescription drug bill into law in December.

There is and has been a lot of nepotism in this administration, if you look at the administration overall. Rehnquist's daughter was appointed (and left), Scalia's son (don't know if he is still there), Colin Powell's son (left I believe), and those are just a few that come to mind without research. The appointment of the offspring of Supreme Court Justices is just a subtle form of bribery or maybe even worse. Isn't that how the tribal leaders in the middle ages built the power bases that later developed into monarchies? By giving power to families to be passed on from father to son or daughter? Other presidents have occasionally appointed the relatives of their friends and supporters to high posts, but I do not believe any of them did it to the extent that Bush has.

8. Fascism Anyone?
13. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Those in business circles and close to the power elite often used their position to enrich themselves. This corruption worked both ways; the power elite would receive financial gifts and property from the economic elite, who in turn would gain the benefit of government favoritism. Members of the power elite were in a position to obtain vast wealth from other sources as well: for example, by stealing national resources. With the national security apparatus under control and the media muzzled, this corruption was largely unconstrained and not well understood by the general population.

9. If the Dems can't remind taxpayers, they'll be paying these non negotiable
prices for drugs, and thereby, lining the pockets of Big Pharma, they deserve to lose in 2006.
