Kucinich: Iraq Policy Will Lead to Draft
link

MANCHESTER, N.H. - America's policy in Iraq will lead to a resumption of the military draft, Democrat Dennis Kucinich told high school and college students Saturday.

"The body count keeps rising," Kucinich said, pointing to reports of more deaths in Iraq.

"We are not that far away from this country moving toward a draft," he said. "It's just inevitable because the number of troops are going down and the U.S. commitments are worldwide and there is a point at which that is the next step."

After his speech, Kucinich said he was not trying to stir up unreasonable fears. "These kids' lives are on the line," he said.

This is from Saturday so sorry if it's been discussed - searched but didn't find it.

1. THANK YOU, DENNIS!
gyaaaaaah, It's been driving me buggy that nobody is talking about this, and he's absolutely right. It's INEVITABLE if we don't get the hell out of Iraq!

3. Cognitive dissonance - not popular

It's really hard to support a candidate who will be more likely to further the situation leading to a draft, at the same time that you speak of wanting to 'support the troops'.

Sad, really.

2. Again, Dennis leads on this one.
Everybody else wants to have their cake and eat it too, both with the budget AND keeping the military in Iraq.

4. Yes
Tell the people what they want to hear... reality doesn't have to be a factor until after the election.

5. Exactly.
Crazy isn't it? Bush has the Draft boards gearing up to go into full operation in March 2005 and our forces are stretched to the breaking point, but NOBODY cares.

Pathetic!

6. I am amazed, too, diamondsoul
lets keep this kicked.

Any candidate who does not want to bring home the troops right away is ultimately for the draft.
I can't believe all these folks don't get that.....where else will they get the cannon fodder (BTW I HATE that term) but it makes the point.

Do we know how many soldiers have died? What is the latest Iraq count? or the Afgan body count?
Plese see my rant (lnk below) to help understand why Americans don't seem disturbed by the probability of a draft.

7. Do you know any potential 'cannon fodder'?
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 01:56 PM by redqueen
I have two brothers that are potential cannon fodder. I have one cousin that is potential cannon fodder. And more than a few friends of mine and my family are ripe for the draft.

I'm voting for Kucinich in the primaries.

End the US-led occupation NOW.

I forgot that females were now eligible to be drafted and stuck on the front lines for the MIC and the oil industry.

12. my daughter !
if they take women they would take her...over my dead and bruised body of course. I would leave the country before I would let her be drafted.

(Altho she is 21 and has a mind of her own ...but she wouold never go willingly)

My son might also be depending on age...same goes for him.

Not my kids...no way ....not for anyone.

Peace is the only option...

10. If only everyone who felt that way
would actually vote for him, we might get a candidate who can debate bush on this issue without having to say, 'well, you were right, but you did it wrong'. Boy, that's tellin 'im!

13. Question: two more divisions? (Kerry plan)
If we need two more divisions, where will they come from? Aren't the armed forces already keeping people in for longer than they signed on for?

So who's going to join these two new divisions?
