Why is my daughter's public school advertising for Wal Mart? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 10:23 AM by TwoSparkles
I just received my daughter's school-supply list for the kindergarten school year.
In addition to the list of supplies, there is a big Wal Mart logo on both sides of the sheet. Furthermore, around the logo is a Wal Mart stamp that says, "Return your film to Wal Mart for Quality Film Developing".
Excuse me, but why are PUBLIC SCHOOLS in the business of directing parents to Wal Mart for school supplies and film developing?
Did Wal Mart pay for their logo and film-developing ad on these flyers, which are sent out to every parent who has a child in grades K-5?
I don't like this!
My child is only in kindergarten, and all ready I have to deal with this kind of stuff?

7. I'll bet it's more than 3 cents LOL |
|
it never ceases to amaze me how people are so afraid of taxes, and then wonder why our infrastructure is for shit and our children under-educated.

10. My grandfather used to say... |
|
paying a lot in taxes every year means you've made a lot.
I always say that I wouldn't mind paying 90% taxes, if I had housing, and healthcare, and food, and clothing, education (secondary and college) for my children, and all the necessities of a happy life. It's not paying the money that bothers me, it's paying the money and getting nothing in return (except for war, and corporate subsidies, and tax-cuts for the rich).

6. Correction: Why is YOUR public school advertising. |
|
We don't allow ad flyers in anything - even if a company contributes. We list them as a contributor in the newsletter, but that's about it.
So not EVERYONE is doing it.

8. Yes... you will be dealing with it for many more years. |

Many people are just fine with the idea that corporations get total advertising access in public schools in exchange for cash.
Let's hope your school doesn't have Channel One...

and let corporations move in.
Soon we'll have Wal-mart Elementary schools, Halliburton High and all manner of atrocity.

13. We are getting a super Walmart and I am amazed at how Walmart |
|
joins the local chamber of commerce and gives off the "we love this town" bullshit. KMart is never seen, nor are any of the other chains. And we wonder how they do it? They have copied PR pages from the Rove campaign book. Dems are still scratching their heads and wondering. Hello? Anybody out there?

14. Well yeah... in order to get money some public schools do this... |
|
WHy do you think certain soda companies have distributing rights to some schools. At my school it's Pepsi. The other high school, and my school's rival, it's Coke.

15. WM probably paid for the flyers. Can't blame the school. |
|
They're all looking for $$ anywhere they can get it!
I'm sure this is just part of WM advertising budget, and to get you to shop for your school supplies at WM.
There are flyers at my grocery store that lists the requirements for each local school, by grade, and of course "you can buy them all there."
I don't really see a problem with it.
