Sen.Durbin's excellent point about Judge Roberts:
Several Republicans and conservative activist groups were opposed to Alberto Gonzalez for the SCOTUS (allegedly b/c they think he might be pro-Roe vs. Wade), but - although Roberts hasn't answered any questions (in public) regarding his views on anything - they are thrilled that Roberts has been nominated for the position.

Sounds like the Republicans know something about Roberts that the rest of the US doesn't.

2. It should be made obvious that the GOP is the party of Secrecy
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 11:54 AM by Armstead
This -- as so many otehr similar issues -- always seems to boil down to the GOP and administratiion taking the position that the American people have no right to know anything.

"Shut up and mind your own business" is the underlying Republican mantra.

Why the American people don't see through that and get annoyed about it is beyond me.

4. Roberts fits right in with them, behind the pulled down shades in our
White House.

5. If I were a Senate Democrat
I would broadcast loud and clear to the American people that there will be no vote, only an ongoing filibuster, UNTIL ALL RECORDS are provided. Roberts is a stealth candidate, with very few decisions as a judge and no records being provided by the government from his work as an attorney.

7. It's the Senate that's supposed to advise and consent
Not James Dobson, at least according to that quaint old document the United States Constitution.
