"Screamin' Dean" is a good nickname |
|
I'm a Dean supporter, and I like this as an unofficial nickname. It sounds like a man who's coming on strong. I think he can use the scream thing to his advantage to separate himself from "Long-drawn out Nuanced Sentences Kerry."

1. I do too. I think in the South it can be turned into a "Rebel Yell". |

2. I fear the Confederate overtones, but "rebel yell" is good, too |
|
I think it's a theme that would appeal to the South, if we could lose the segregationist aspect.

11. I love the Dean scream and |
|
it really gave him points with me. I can just see him giving an acceptance speech. I'll be screaming with him. All America will scream in delight! But I'm hoping to use the Dean scream when they elect Clark. But Dean is my second choice.

Howling Howard better. That way he can be asked about the "Howard Holler" while in the south. (Holler is a southern word.)

He reminds me of a rock star! Next thing you know he will be smashing guitars at debates! I don't mind it (I think it's kinda cool) but I am a little doubtful it will sway the more conservative voters.

6. Howlin' Howard is good, too |

It's an image that sets him up from the other candidates in what I see as a positive way--willing to shout rather than just whisper and waffle.

8. I don't think it'll effect... |
|
I don't think it'll affect the moderate conservatives. Sure, it might bother some as well as some ultra liberals. You can't please everybody, but ultimately I think he should embrace what happened. Why? Because not only can he turn something that would have been an ultra negative into a positive, he also takes it away from Rove to use against him as ammunition.
I would suggest in one of his upcoming interviews that when he is asked about it, that he goes off into a story. (People associate with story-telling. Regan was good like this.)
"You know something funny has happened ever since then. A bunch of people in the office have given me the nick name "Howling Howard", I think its great -- I think it's funny. Everyone there was having a good time, I obviously was, and I'm glad that so many people are able to take it in good humor. I embrace it I don't run away from it."
Something alone those lines. I honestly believe Dean has turned something that would have been damaging to anyone else into something greatly positive for him. It shows what type of politician he really is.
