I think Jim Sharp is running most of the White House's strategy on Rove.
Who is Jim Sharp? I've linked to a rawstory background below.

This Watergate lawyer is Bush's criminal attorney, and I've got this deep down feeling that the name of the game is protecting Bushie....even if it means throwing Rove under the wheels.

I've just got a feeling there's something we are all missing.....

Bush's new lawyer harbors secretive, criminal past
By John Byrne
RAW STORY EDITOR

The cult of secrecy surrounding President Bush’s newly retained lawyer in the Valerie Plame CIA leak case is so strong that the White House refuses even to confirm who the president’s lawyer is.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan told reporters June 3 that the lawyer’s name was Jim Sharp, but refused even to confirm whether he is James E. Sharp, a Washington attorney.

But the smokescreen around Sharp goes far deeper than that, and perhaps for good reason. The only other president to hire a private attorney for acts committed while president, Richard Nixon, eventually resigned from office.

Sharp long has cloaked himself in secrecy, even taking the unusual move of paying to have his address and telephone number removed from the major Martindale legal directory. He was an assistant district attorney before he came to Washington and has a history of taking on cases with political implications.

2. I remember when this whole thing came up and DU'ers were all over

researching "Who is the real James Sharp?"

Looking at the background of Rove's Lawyer who was paid in "gold bars" for defending a crook who was dealing in money laundering, one might think the Bushies were left to deal with the crookedest lawyers they could find. Rather than go with the more "high profiled" lawyers who were already representing Time and NYT's and the networks they were left with the dregs. :D Even Bush loyalist and buddie Ted Olson was busy working on the Sumpremes so who was left?

Seems Gonzales didn't do such a great job as Bush's personal lawyer in covering Bush butt so he had to be put in the job of Attorney General in case it ever got to the point where it all started to come unglued.

A lawyer who has to hide his identity, might be one that Bush should have thought twice about, though.
