RAW STORY has acquired an invitation to a fundraiser Tuesday evening for Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele, 'special guested' by embattled Bush advisor Karl Rove.

Steele is preparing an exploratory campaign for the U.S. Senate in Maryland, where Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) is retiring.

The fundraiser is being hosted by Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, at the Ronald Reagan Center in Washington, D.C.

When Democrats called on Steele to quit the event earlier this month, citing a probe into the Bush adviser's role in the outing of a CIA agent, the would-be senator's allies laughed. "Are they afraid he's going to raise too much money?" asked GOP strategist Carol Hirschburg told the Washington Post.
