Say that McCain is their nominee. I could NEVER imagine
a democratic group coming out and attacking McCain on his service record like they did Kerry.

Something like Hanoi Hilton Prisoners for Truth? No way. We would not do that.

1. Don't worry - Repugs will do that in the primary.
McCain won't get that far for that same reason.

3. McCain doesn't get the nomination.
No matter what position he's been taking the last four years, he's not a neocon. They'll Rove him in the primaries again.

4. There are some good things about McCain
Despite his Savings and Loan crappola that he and many others were caught up in, he has done some great things. (and some not so great) He fought a war, suffered greatly because of it, and I think, he tried to do his best. As Senator, virtually everyone agrees that his word is good. Inside the beltway, that means alot. In some ways, he is everything that Bush is not.

I do not agree with him on many issues, immigration, abortion, birth control, and others, but he still earns your respect. Make that past tense. The kissy-kissy stuff with all things Bush makes me want to retch. I don't mind someone holding other opinions than me, I do mind when they try to force their ideas, by force or stealth, down my throat. McCain holds others, even those who disagree, in much higher regard than Bush. Bush has people stomp on them.

I hold one opinion, though, if he were president, rather than the mad, dry-drunk, pseudo-cowboy, dry-hole, oilman and his gang of criminals, (I read that elsewhere, and just had to use that description) I really think our country would be much better off. I seriously doubt we would be in Iraq, and I honestly believe that our preparation in advance of 9/11 would have been far better. Even if 9/11 had been as devastating, I really think that he would have dealt with Afghanistan much more professionally and finished the job that really needed doing.

5. I think they've got him under their thumb.
It's too bad. I've always respected the man. I wonder whether the truth of these matters will ever come out. It just seems that it is very, very strange that not a single Repug has bolted in spite of the neocon's ruinous policies.

6. logically, you are talking about blackmail
Any public official today has some thing nasty in the woodshed. Every human does. As you suggesting that only the shrubistas actually go and dig it up, and threaten people like McCain with it, using deniable intermediaries?

That makes a whole lot of sense.

7. Not ready to label it.
I just cannot accept that a party would have such ironclad control over hundreds of individuals like that. It's like they inhale and exhale in unison. They all speak the same rhetoric. They all vote the same way. Shit, even Arlen Spector, of whom I also have great respect, is ennervated by these lunatics.

Inquiring minds want to know how and why this can happen.

8. McCain has been diminished by playing lap dog to Rovbots. He
doesn't stand a chance. Many moderates are disgusted with McCain's Gumby routine.
