The DLC is going to end up spliting the Democratic Party
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 10:08 PM by Cascadian
And I am almost convinced that the corporatists and the right-wing planned it this way.

I know I am not alone in this view but what are the Democratic leadership, meaning those in the Senate and the House, have to gain in supporting key issues of the Neocon agenda? Issues like the Iraq War and the Bankruptcy Bill What do they also have to gain in endorsing Neocons for positions of powerlike John Negroponte. Alberto Gonzales, even most likely John Roberts? Do you really, really think that the Democratic Party has something to gain in supporting Bush's fascist agenda? It's ridiculous!

How many elections are we going to lose and how many more voters are the DLC "me too!" crowd are hoping to gain by being just like the Republicans? And don't give me that old line about Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton is now consigned to the history books. Let's talk about what has been happening for the last five years. Why must Democrats say "We can fight a better, smarter war in Iraq" instead of saying "Let's bring our men and women home."? People and not just people on the left are getting sick and tired of the "going along to get along!" game that many of the Democratic politicans in D.C. are playing. The complacency is getting really old.

At the DLC Conference in Columbus, Senator Hillary Clinton is calling for the party to be united and the DLC has placed her in charge of pushing the centrist agenda in D.C.. Many are saying that Hillary's appearance is a preview of her getting the Democratic ticket for President in 2008. She has called for all Democrats to end the division within the party in fighting for the values we all share. Fair enough, Senator but who's vision of those values? The DLC? Here is the newspaper article on the DLC conference. What is disturbing is that the DLC seems to be keen on attacking those liberals and those on the left. How is that helping bringing the party together? By being just like the Neocons?

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/20050726-9999-1n26dems.html

To echo Toby Chaudhuri in the above article. The DLC is old news. It is time for Democrats to push for a bold assertive agenda. If the Democratic Party continues to be hamstrung by the DLC, then there won't be a Democratic Party left. I am convinced that this was the plan the whole time. The DLC are corporate hacks and should be removed from any influence or power within the Democratic Party. The sooner the better.

3. Then it's time to fight.
I am going to do my bit to make sure the DLC is swept from power in the Democratic Party. There is not a lot of time left until 2006 or 2008. We have our work cut out. I may not consider myself a Democrat but I will do my best to help salvage what is suppoed to be the opposition.

5. The DLC are having their conference right now.
And so the DLC people are out in full force this evening. I think this whole thing was planned by certain DLC supporters to quash any anti-DLC postings on here.

4. The Dem Party can only be split if we let it happen!
I learned a long time ago that nothing can happen to anyone unless they let it happen!

From everything I've heard, the DLC is loosing power fast, and they're trying to stay alive right now.

Just ignore them and their arguments, and they'll die a slow death as they should.

We as the Dem Party really do have to promote our ideas though.

I do agree with whoever it was that said "Just opposing the Pugs isn't good enough!

6. We should be talking about issues, the war and even Karl Rove.
Enough of the infighting- we are all acting like idiots.

Lets talk about this in terms of '06 &'08 strategy & issues instead of who is in what group-

We need to let the issue or strategy stand on its merits and cut the labeling.

8. I do agree with you but...

I cannot support anything that the DLC is promoting within the leadership of the Democratic Party. They are too Republican Lite and you will not WILL NOT win with that stance. It has been proven in 1994, 2002, and 2004! We need a stronger and assertive stance against the Neocons. If that means getting down and dirty, then so be it!

It's long overdue time to take the gloves off!

10. Fine- critique their issues...
Force them to discuss their issues & strategies and how it would really work- and steer from the labels- thats all I can come up with.

12. that's the best advice I"ve heard yet.
and I realize I"ve not always followed that in the past. I will try to in the future.
I think the problem is, the only message from DLCers I see is that we have to be more like them or lose elections. That already takes it away from the issues and makes it divisive.
In the future, I'll try to ask them WHY they think that is true, because from my POV, its not.

7. They're dying. That's alright.
Let them fall off like so many dead toenails or skin, and we'll move on.

11. the DLC is at a low point, and declining from there
their heyday was the Clinton presidency.

Lieberman got slaughtered in the 2004 primaries, Howard Dean is the DNC chair, and the DLC is on the outs with the liberal base.

Plus they supported the Iraq fiasco, and even some Republicans are backing away from that.

17. I listened to Hillary at Austin. I was disappointed in her
benchmarks. I understand that this is the position of the DLC. We will be in Iraq for the next 12 years.

What will the DLC supporters say if "staying the course" in Iraq doesn't work?

13. I've been calling them the DLC infiltrators for years
Not because I know that the DLC is a secret project of the Right - just that if were a secret project of the Right, it would look and act just like the DLC!

Let them die. The sooner the better.

15. Sorry, I don't believe that the DLC is evil and insidious.
I just don't understand why ALL Democrats can't embrace the big tent notion. It's not the DLC that might split the party, it's the intolerance for others with a different point of view. It breaks my heart to see this rift within the rank and file.

18. Evil? That's not the point. How about proponents of the corporate agenda?
What you call Democratats, many call DINO's. Corporate interests and worker's interests do not fit in the same tent, and there already is a tent for corporations, it's called the Republican Party.

19. What pisses off many on the left...
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 05:13 AM by Q
...is the way the DLC is saying: here's the DLC's agenda...unite behind it. No discussion. No debate. No looking for consensus. What gives them the right to create a platform/agenda without input from the rest of the party? They are assuming leadership of the party as if they have a mandate.

This is how the RWing operates and it's not a very 'democratic' process. In fact...the DLC itself isn't very democratic...considering that they're not accountable to the People and are financed by corporations.

I don't mind working WITH the DLC. But to have them TAKE control of the party and demand that we follow THEM is not only insulting...it's the antithesis of everything good about Democracy.

20. The DLC has been saying they will do this for quite a while
I heard Evan Bayh (I think) talking about how the DLC can contribute to the Democratic party by formulating "positive" positions on issues. No problem, they should get a voice but they're not the only voice.

Let's just look at it as one group within the Democratic Party setting out their own agenda--ok, that's cool--but they don't speak for everyone. DLC has been used to running the whole show, that is before the little peasant's rebellion elevated Howard Dean to the chairmanship over DLC objections.

The grass roots peasants must get a say in this too. The DLC may have once upon a time been a useful correction to a Democratic Party that had lost touch with mainstream America but these days it's the DLC that's lost touch with the real concerns of voters with a string of election losses, support for an increasingly unpopular war and an unwillingness to get down and fight for ordinary citizens.

21. It's as bad as the Neocons.
I find it the height of arrogance that the DLC is calling for party yet unity and yet they are not willing to reach out to the liberals and lefties within the party. This is why the DLC needs to be removed from the hierarchy of the Democratic Party. I am not saying they should leave, but they best better listen to the people otherwise it's over.
