Is John Roberts Thomas Becket? |
|
And is Bush Henry II?
I mean, is bush nominating his friend and kindred political spirit to the SCOTUS only to be in for a surprise? Upon donning the robes of office, will Roberts feel the gravity of the job and become a fair and just man, as Becket did when he donned the archbishop's mitre?
I know Roberts has carried water for Reagan, Bush I and Bush II throughout his career, but, since the SCOTUS appointment is a lifetime one, with (theoretically) no threat of termination, will his conscience drive him to the middle, like David Souter and Sandra Day O'Connor before him?
Or is this just wishful thinking?

3. Well, it happened with Earl Warren, didn't it? |
|
One can always hope! Though the more recent examples of Thomas & Scalia are discouraging.

4. Is Thomas Becket the guy from Quantam Leap ? |
|
Maybe he is, who knows. Does he have to become Supreme Court Justice before he can leap again?

5. Wishful thinking. John Roberts is even more rightwing than Ted Olson. |
|
Hostile to civil rights, doesn't believe in an independent judiciary. Tom DeLay loves the guy.

DeLay loves him? If the beady-eyed bug man's in bed with him, count me out.

7. If that's the case, I'll be glad to admit I was wrong |

What I know now, however, causes me to believe that he should be opposed vigorously.
