15 Democrats Break Ranks to Vote for CAFTA and hand Bush a victory
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 09:41 AM by ClarkUSA
If the DNC wants to pick up votes, they'll pound CAFTA like a drum come the midterm elections. NAFTA's passage did lasting damage to the Democratic Party, pushing Reagan Democrats into the embrace of the Republican Party -- now we can do the same to Republicans with CAFTA.

For more on why CAFTA is wrong:

Here are the complete roll call vote results:

8. If any of these are YOUR reps please write to them
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 09:54 AM by senseandsensibility
It doesn't have to be long, just three or four sentences with a message line that makes it clear you are unhappy with their vote on CAFTA. Messages will carry much more weight if they come from their own contstituents. Thanks for putting this list together, ClarkUSA !

10. send them
the link to * giving us the finger as well. Ask if he's expressing their thoughts.

When I get home from work, I intend to send the picture to a number of congress critters, newspapers, etc. I've already printed it out to leave lying around at work.Hoping it might push a few folks out of denial.

11. Done--I worked for Melissa Bean and opened my checkbook.
My activist teen kid volunteered in her office, we met her three or four times with big smiles all around. No more. We are done. My son is pissed and so am I. If she doesn't vote with Dems, she is no better than Crane, the idiot she replaced. This is a huge mistake for her--Repubs. won't vote for her and now Dems won't either.

Too bad, she could have been a hero.

And it is important to let her know that her former supporters are paying attention. There needs to be a down side to this for them.

16. Melissa Bean was supported by MoveOn, I think.
I was trying to think if she were DFA, but I don't think so. I can't find the list now to verify.

17. I knew that DUers would care enough to SPEAK OUT
Glad to share with like minds here, senseandsensibility.

Even if you don't live in their districts, do call and email - I did, to each and every DINO on the list. When I called, they didn't ask me where I was from.
I was prepared to tell them that I had no desire to share my personal information with DINOs I don't intend on supporting again if they did.

They need to hear from all of us, IMO.

20. Moran is anything BUT a DINO
check out his record--he opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning and has a very strong progressive voting record on most issues.

He has a district that is 40% minority and most of that minority is Central American, and many of those constituents want CAFTA. It is a highly educated, consistently blue district (Arlington & Alexandria, outside DC), despite Rethug redistricting that added more red neighborhoods.

I'm not saying he did the right thing. I am saying he did what he probably thought represented the wishes of his constituents, which is what he usually does. On this particular issue, it happens to be at odds with what most liberals and progressives would want, but that does not make him a DINO.
