Howard Stern supports Ellliot Spitzer for Governor of NY
I think this is relatively noteworthy. I don't know how active Stern will get. But after all he was a very big part of Pataki winning in the first place.

Maybe this would be better to post in the New York State group. But I don't have access. If someone could inform everyone in there with a similar thread I'd appreciate it.

I think it's good news.

1. Didn't Pataki just say he was not gonna run again?
Interesting.

7. Someone said
Pataki is going to go the "John Edwards route". As many of you know there are many people who believe John Edwards never actually believed he'd win the 04 nomination, but that he would be impressive enough in campaigning to make it as the VP. Pataki has a couple problems with this, he has a much higher profile than Edwards beforre the election season started, and he offers almost no electoral support, nobody actually believes they'll win NY do they?

12. I think McCain could win NY
sorry I think to many DUers have delusions of our safeness in places. Almost no republican could win NY state. But if there's one, it's McCain.

But basically any republican facing any democrat where the repub could win NY has the election locked up anyway.

13. He could probably win in NY.... but....
Even what's-her-face.... Bay Buchanan (GOP Strategist).. said today on Inside Politics that McCain would never make it past the primaries for the Republican presidential ticket in '08.

......"The Social and Christian Conservatives would take him down before the Democrats would even get a chance to."

She thinks someone like Allen.. or someone just as conservative.. would be far more appealing than someone who's voted with the Democrats one too many times for their likings.

Anyway.. that's Bay Buchanan's story on McCain and she's sticking to it ;)

14. Perhaps,
But I really can't think of any Dem who has a realistic chance of winning the nomination that would lose NY State unless Giuliani was the nominee which has even less of a chance of happening than McCain.

15. The republicans obsession with 9-11 could trump Rudy's moderateness
Saying Rudy has no shot at the nomination is ridiculous.

18. I haven't heard much of anything from Rudy though in a while
So I don't know about him. Isn't he seen more as a liberal to a lot of them?

17. I don't think McCain would get it though
I don't know if he would be able to finish Bush and the gangs plans. Whomever does get the nomination will probably still have ties to the PNAC group and continue their foreign policy plans. Also whoever does get the nomination will have to have Bush's support and him campaign some for this canidate. I just don't think McCain is rightwing enough. Remember when he did the "compromise"? The freepers were freakin out and treating him really bad. I think he's going to run but would he get it?

20. You're probably right
I recall Pat Robertson saying that there is no way he could support McCain and the fundies will have a huge sway over who gets the nomination. Bush is still popular among the true believers and I don't see them blessing McCain in any way.

Giulliani has a much better chance, inspite of his own supposed moderate views.

3. Stern's just jumping on the bandwagon
Spitzer's election as governor has been a done deal for a while now.

4. Brave timing
Spitzer's the only one standing at this point. Pataki pulled out two days ago.

9. He hates the fundies
Ever since he got fined, I think his contempt for the fundies and their stooges in the Republican party has trumped his economic libertarianism.

that's about all I have ever seen on his show..:) Not something that offends me but not something that sells well in the political market.

Just wondering. I know on his website during the election he had tons of good links to help you out.

19. Cool
Stern seems to understand the problems with the repukes and to his credit, did whatever he could to try to get Bush out of office.

Of course, at this point it wouldn't matter who Stern had endorsed considering Spitzer looks well on his way to becoming governor.
