1. Chris Matthews doesn't book the TV ads. That's someone in the office.
The "talent" doesn't even SEE the ads that are run during the shows.

3. Then I guess he can't be blamed for helping the "swiftboaters"
destroy Kerry either. He (and the rest of the media) had them on night after night and allowed them to spew their vomit unchallenged. I only remember Lawrence O'Donnell at one point calling them on their lies.

Tweety also repeated and helped to perpetuate the numerous GOP lies about Gore in 2000.

As long as he is associated with the show that he is the host of I refuse to let the slimy bastard off the hook. The pattern here is that he carries the water for Rove and the GOP slime machine whenever they ask him to.

16. He's not guiltless, but Tweety did argue vociferously
w/Michelle Malkin about some of the outrageous claims the SBVs were making.

15. If you think he doesn't have influence on this, think again.
Chris Matthews, for all his faults, is a star; he can have a say in what runs on his show, and many others of his ilk DO pull strings.

Should he be thinking of this? I think so. That doesn't necessarily make him complicit if he doesn't, but as time goose-steps on, people in similar positions will become more meddlesome.

We're still in the early days of Infotainment, and the blurring of advertising, propagandizing and actual reporting have yet to settle into more integrated paradigms. It won't be long.

Networks refuse to run ads all the time, and those decisions aren't just made by corporate executives, they're influenced by principal talent as well.

I agree it's probably not Chris Matthews fault but come-on MSNBC

"Is Chris Matthews a A-Hole?
Is Chris Matthews a competent host?
Find out on tonight's Hardball!"

5. not so fast...
ON HARDBALL TONIGHT
Thursday, 7 p.m. ET

Paul Hackett wants to be the first Iraq war veteran to do battle in Congress. But first, Chris plays Hardball with the former Marine Major on whether his military service will help or hurt his bid for office.

I plan on watching, do you??

7. exactly
the GOP makes an issue of Hackett's military service and who is the first a-hole to give them a forum on national television to spread their filth?

You guessed it.

"But first, Chris plays Hardball with the former Marine Major on whether his military service will help or hurt his bid for office."

If this was a Republican what do you think the copy would say?

Who raised the issue of his service as a possible liability? The GOP slime machine..that's who. A candidate's military service becomes a liability in a campaign? Hmmmm...sound familiar?

Do you think he'll have some representative of the GOP on after the Hackett interview who will paint his service as something other than honorable?

I will not give the benefit of the doubt to Chris Matthews. His history hasn't earned it for him. Even now he allows Republican hacks to repeat the lies about Plame/Wilson. I don't trust the bastard one bit.

12. I don't know if some rep of the GOP will be on afterwards, since I
haven't seen it yet.

I think it's good that he's talking to Hackett, who is basically a local candidate, and I think that his military service is an issue, because he's the FIRST Iraq veteran to run for office.

13. Here's what I know
The Ohio GOP questions Hackett's military service. They suggest that his service in Iraq was only to aid his political ambitions. That's exactly what they said about Kerry.

And low and behold the Hardball promo wonders whether his service in Iraq could actually hurt his candidacy.

I'm glad Matthews is having him on as well but I don't trust him.

If he doesn't have someone on from the GOP after Hackett's interview is over, when he's not there to defend himself, I'll be surprised.

9. Anybody that slams someone in the military in Iraq right now
Needs to have a full war against them.

It was bad enough they did that to Kerry while we had soldiers fighting in * phony war, but if they try to take down someone who served in Iraq, we need to unite and expose them. Maybe this could be part of the DU activists group's next mission??

19. this is one time that i think chris will handle it ok
for this reason: paul hackett is the kind of man chris likes and i think will defend

he served honorably
he is a straight and tough talker

if nothing else chris loves a mans man plus hackett actually served while all these other people squawk but do nothing
and since chris is not a cheerleader for the war i think this adds up to good exposure for hacketts campaign

best wishes mr hackett
were with you

20. Tues (?) Matthews was interviewing soldiers from Iraq
I had it on, but didn't really get to watch.

I can't figure Matthews out. Before the election, someone from the right said to Chris "maybe it is different in your party".

I'm not sure where his head is at, but I do know one thing, he is a media Whore!

I remember him defending Kerry against the swifties, and remember the best was making Malkin cry because she was bashing Kerry's service in Nam. That was heaven:P

21. i know... we have all wondered about chris no doubt
but he does have some consistency
he likes the strong type who can and will answer questions
they may not tell the truth but he likes those that seem tough

i dont watch him and he definitely changes with the wind but i see paul hackett as being someone chris would like
he does fancy himself a dem but lets not get into that~ he is far too complicated and airy to have a public political forum

22. How did he make her cry. What did he say?
That gets me so steamed. Shout support the troops, then trash a vet. I think the worst was when I heard people laughing about a triple amputee, singing "B-Double-E-Double-R-U-N". All the while defending the Abu Ghraib soldiers. "We don't know what it's like over there."

That's right, motherfuckers, you don't. AND NEITHER DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN VIETNAM. NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP!
