anyone else here no longer flying the flag.......?
I have not been able to fly the Stars and Stripes since last December. I feel that by flying the flag I support the Administration, the War and the Lies. I truly am not "Proud to be an American" as so many folks proclaim on their bumper stickers. I am currently flying my Cleveland Indians Flag instead. When I flew my flag upside-down last fall, it drove people crazy....enough so that one of my Neighbors attempted to steal both. They grabbed the one hanging on my front porch (along with all of my Kerry yard signs), but failed to get the one on my flagpole, because it has a catch at the top. I can not and WILL NOT fly the Flag until this horrible nightmare ends. Most likely I will never fly it again in my lifetime, except upside-down. BTW, if I am arguing with an ignorant Repuke it pisses them off to no end, they simply can't believe it. If I tell them I flew it upside-down for a few weeks they don't understand...most have no clue what the symbolism is, just like a lot of things most Repukes are clueless about. Flame Me if you want, but you won't change my mind, you know I just no longer have much......

Sec. 8. - Respect for 'the' flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

1. I know the feeling
It just makes me sick to my stomach what our flag is standing for these days.

I look forward to the day our flag waves & we can be proud of it.

2. I don't fly it anymore either
I used to everyday before the election, then I started flying the Gadsden Flag as a way of showing an old school patriotic flag and being that it was a real flag that symbolized American rebellion I thought it was appropriate.

Today I can't even bring myself to fly that flag, I feel the same way as of right now flying the stars and stripes feels like saying I'm cool with everything that's going on in this country.

I never did the whole "proud to be American" thing. To me you be proud of something you accomplished not where you were lucky enough to be born in. I'll be proud to be an American when this nation actually participates in leading the way to peace and prosperity.

3. Flag
I feel your pain

The thing I cant stand is those flags on huge
gas guzzling SUV's that also have the
"Support our troops" ribbons on them

(If you werent guzzling all that gas, maybe GW
wouldnt have invaded Iraq for their oil)

5. Vietnam War protestors used to fight about this ...
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 02:28 PM by welshTerrier2
i actually saw violence break out at a peace rally between those demonstrators who insisted we fly the flag and those who opposed it ...

i don't ever fly the American flag ... why? because others would likely construe it as an endorsement for what this country has been doing ...

the American ideals envisioned by our founding fathers should always be honored ... what America could be should be honored ... but what America has become should NOT be honored ...

flying the flag without clarifying the message makes no sense ... in doing so, it's just as easy to assume you believe in what America is doing as it is to assume you believe in its original vision ...

7. Dear blue, I too have avoided flying "old glory" so instead I
purchased a new one.

A "peace" flag. Take a look.

10. Me. I flew one every day for years but stopped after Nov. 2.

Except for once -- I flew it upside-down on January 20. It's not coming out again until Bush and his stooges are out of the White House for good.

12. We haven't flown it in years.
At first because we moved to a house that didn't have a flag holder. Before we got around to putting one up, the chimp took over. No way I'll fly it with criminals running the government. Plus, our flag is sun-bleached, so it would be disrespectful to fly the one we have.

13. I stopped flying mine when I heard * wanted to invade Iraq.
I feel that if I display my flag, I'm showing my agreement with this administration's atrocities being committed in our name.

These days, I'm ashamed of my country.
