Poll question: The DLC: My One Question |
|
Is is wise (i.e. politically smart and beneficial to the party) for Al From, CEO of the DLC, which is affiliated with the Democratic Party of the United States of America, attack Howard Dean, Chairman of the DNC, which is the leading organizational body of the Democratic Party of the United States of America?

1. For the DLC's sake, the DLC should stay away from political analysis |
|

If they want to contribute policy ideas, that's one thing, but the DLC's (and by DLC's I mean Al From's) political instincts have been utterly terrible as long as I can remember. Al From has contributed more to the cause of Democratic disunity than all of Karl Rove's shady tactics have over the years.
ON EDIT: I would like to point out that the DNC does NOT actually have an official affiliation with the DLC.

3. But the DLC calls themselves a part of the Dem party |
|
But, no. The DNC is not affiliated with them. They are just parts of the same at-large body.

9. Many groups consider themselves part of the Democratic party |
|
Personally I think the DLC's political influence is a lot less than most people think it is. Sure they list a ton of Democratic politicians as members, but I seriously doubt more than a handful would ever change or take a controversial position for a Democrat just because the DLC told them to.
When Democratic politicians cave to Republicans, occasions a significant number of DUers attribute to the DLC, I think its usually due to the individual politician's own political judgment rather than calls from the DLC that voting with the Repubs will better ensure reelection.

I have a different theory about this whole thing. It occurred to me that perhaps some Dems are coming out against Dean to placate the whiny biotch Republicans, and it does seem to diffuse them. Howard says his thing - brilliantly scathing stuff - and it's out there. If he wasn't poo-poo'd by someone in the Dem hierarchy, the Republicans would be screaming bloody murder and would drown out Howard's delicious retributions.
Just a thought.

4. The repubs say the Democrats have no plan for anything. That they |
|
are the reactive party. Thre are two major Democratic parties with two different ideas. One for us and the other repub lite it looks like. Or totally gutless.

5. Then again does DU's criticism of the DLC undermine the party? |

8. Aha! The million dollar question! |
|
But, then again, how much media coverage does DU get?

I guess the media loves internal squabbles.
Personally I don't like From's criticism of Dean. Nor do I believe as some on DU do that those in tha DLC are apostates.

10. I think DUers vastly overestimate both the influence of DU and the DLC |

12. We should be coming together on the parts where were agree. We |
|
should be working on plans for those parts and at least look like we care about what happens to this country instead of getting all upset about the differences and looking like Keystone cops.

7. It is a clear attempt to divide the party, with the purpose of retaining |
|
DLC control of the party. The DLC only wants unity if the unity is on their terms and behind them. Any democratic effort to take control of the party from them will be resisted with this sort of divisive tactics. and it is not out of the question that scorched earth resistance and overt collusion with the Republicans will occur.
