I cannot imagine a region being so "head-in-their-ass" republican that they would actually elect a scheming, corrupt liar like Jean Schmidt. I was purusing DailyKos this morning and now I see she's connected with Ohio's 'coingate' scandal.

The obvious choice should be Paul Hackett who has shown not only he's an honest man, but he has served our country well as a veteran of this most recent gulf war. But who knows, maybe the voters of OH-2 like crooks to represent them - I mean, they have a crook for a governor, a crook for their Secretary of State (who helped steal an election for the ultimate crook - that idiot in the White House).

Let's hope that what OH-2 voters recognize is that honesty is a good virtue to have represent them in Washington DC and that they'll stop this voting blindly loyal towards their party and vote for the best candidate. It seems that Hackett has been endorsed by everyone in the area and has proven that he truly is the worthy candidate

1. I've heard that 1 out of every 3 ads is GOP-bought now.
(in Ohio that is)

Hopefully people will see through that. Have I any confidence in that? No. But, I view this whole Ohio thing (now that I've read what you have, LynneSin) to be an example of why assembling too much power in one place tends to shortchange the honest citizen.

Not that there haven't been corrupt Dem administrations, but no point talking of potential corruption when real corruption's staring us all in the face here.

3. the death of democracy indeed
This is so far beyond dirty it's obscene. And they'll march off into the sunset with an unverifiable Diebold score grossly at odds with exit polls, even supposing exit polling can still be done with all the "challengers" there to beat up reporters and black people.

2. GOTV is the key here
can the Dems get the vote out for him. I hope so. IMHO, a lot of Repugs will be turned off by Jean (Marines should not run for Congress) Schmidt and stay home on election day.

4. It's the greater Cincinnati area............
a stronghold of Republican nincompoops. I wish Mr. Hackett the best of luck tomorrow. I hope the people in that area wise up, but I'm not holding out much hope. That's a blood red area, and if they WERE to elect Hackett, we'll know that the worm is REALLY turning!

5. It's Eastern Hamilton County...
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 07:30 AM by Jeff In Milwaukee
I feel compelled to defend the old hometown. Cincinnati proper is strongly Democratic. It's the eastern and western townships of Hamilton County that contain the Republican nincompoops. Anderson Township is voter-rich, and strongly conservative. It doesn't help that the rest of the 2nd CD is very rural (think: Kansas).

6. My boss is from Cincinnati
He is a Democrat and yet he says that the fundies are very strong there due to being adjacent to the Bible Belt across the river.
