Question about recess appointments
Perhaps the answer is obvious, but not to me.

I understand that a recess appointment lasts only through the Congressional term following the recess during which the appointment was made. Since Dubya has demonstrated his disdain for the Constitution and for any semblance of checks and balances, might he simply reappoint Bolton (or anyone else) during the next recess? Might he have done so beginning with the first congressional recess following his coronation in '01?

1. they only really need bolton for the next few months...
his job is to ram resolutions through the UN in order to "justify" invasion/attack of Iran when the outlandish provisions of the resolutions are not met.

I predict an attack in Iran, probably blowing up their nuclear reactors, within a month.
There may be a faked US attack to justify it, but it WILL happen, I think, regardless.\

I believe there is a reason they have been SOOOOOOO pissed that Bolton wasn't on board thus far. They have a schedule to keep. They have things in place, and the longer we don' invade Iran, the more likely someone is going to find out pre-invasion.

IMHO

2. But what about others aside from Bolton?
Is there any limit on consecutive recess appointments?

3. no limit that I'm aware of.
the only limit, I think, is how long that can serve before congress votes on retaining them.

but I honestly don't see why he couldn't keep re-recess appointing the same person ad nauseum to get around that.

4. I was just told that a Recess Appointment lasts for 90 days,
and then the nomintaion comes up for a vote again.

Is that true? Does anyone know?

There is also the fact that the United Nations does not have to accept the credentials of John Bolton as an ambassador. Mind you, it could whip up quite a storm by not accepting them, but if enough countries made a stink, maybe Annan would have a leg to stand on?

Or they could stall his appointment for the 90 days?

Is any of this possible. There have to be some real policy wonks here who would know for sure.

6. 90 days is incorrect
unless, of course, we are ninety days from the next congress taking their oaths. That would be January of 2007. :)

Recess appointments continue through the term of Congress which they are appointed.
