Randi Rhodes just said the Ohio polls are closed!
Don't they close at 7:30? Does she have her time zones mixed up? The polling place list on Hackett's web site say they're all open until 7:30?

dirty trick on their own that they have done to Dems. WAKE UP TIME.

16. Likely the wrong district
Not that I'd put much passed the Repugs but it's likely that that voter is really in Chabot's district, not Portman's old area. Communities are cut right down the middle, so there is a lot of confusion. My brother's best friend was sure she was in OH2, showed up this morning to vote (for Hackett natch) and found out she was one street over into the other district.

Fingers and all other appendages crossed, people....

20. This is probably the case
Congressional districts in southern Ohio are insanely drawn.

For instance, the 3rd District, which includes Montgomery County (Dayton) near the Indiana line, snakes its way down southern Ohio almost to the Ohio River. It looks damned odd when you see it on a map. (This was done a few years back in part to coerce then-Rep. Tony Hall not to seek re-election because southern Ohio is rock-solid GOP. This shameless ploy worked. Unfortunately. Our rep is now one of Bush's top lapdogs.)

She means the 'gentlemans clubs' are closed
They always close them on election day to encourage Republican businessmen to get to the polls...

HACKETT VS. SCHMIDT

Polls Open: 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Hackett, Schmidt Make Dash For Finish Line

Voter Turnout Higher Than Expected

POSTED: 6:12 pm EDT August 1, 2005
UPDATED: 12:17 pm EDT August 2, 2005

CINCINNATI -- The race is close and voter turnout could be higher than expected for the special election to fill the Ohio Second Congressional District seat Tuesday, News 5 reported.

Republican Jean Schmidt was first in line when the polls opened and expressed confidence in her battle with Democrat Paul Hackett. Schmidt voted at a school in her Clermont County precinct. Hackett voted later Tuesday morning at a park lodge in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill.

Both campaigns had TV and radio commercials sweeping the district, while campaign workers focused on get-out-the-vote efforts. Elections officials said on Tuesday that turnout could be as high as 25 percent, a strong showing for a summertime special election.

7. I just got back from canvassing in Warren co.
the polls were open when I went to check my list around noon. And I didn't hear anything about closed polls when I turned in my list at 3:30. At noon, it looked like turnout had been really lite in the precinct where I canvassed.

I read that somewhere a while ago and as best as I can recall, the article said some Repub voters were going to stay away from the polls but can't recall the reason.

Exactly--I certainly wouldn't settle for a two-hour tape delay when I could hear the show live over the Internet. How ironic, when we're fighting supression of voter turnout!

24. Ok...people in this district MUST call Hackett and let them know
They also need to contact air america and tell them that that is misinformation. AND if the places ARE closing, against the law, then Hacketts office must file an immediate injunction.

My recommendation is call Hackett's office now and get verification.
