Message to the RNC: There are no Safe Seats
Given Howard Dean's 50-State Strategy for the DNC, all Republican officeholders should be biting their nails tonight. If this can happen in a traditionally conservative district, then any elected Republican could be out of a job come 2006. It's a sobering night for the country-club set.

5. If Hackett loses, our mantra
should be that Repugs don't support the troops. If they'd elect that right-wing nut job over an Iraqi vet they have no business running around witht their stupid 'support the troops' magnets.

7. Even if we lose the seat
The sleeping giant has awakened....and it looks like farmers and inner city verus the suburbs. This represents a 20-25 point blue shift in a red, red, red district.

And <ahem> it is a nod to gun-toting liberals with a fighting spirit. I can live with those types representing me.

8. The rural vote...
Remember those "NASCAR Dads" that we wrote off as hopeless rednecks in 2000 and 2004? Looks like the good old boy vote can swing to the left if we give them the right candidate.

12. I have every confidence we can get NASCAR dads to vote Democratic
The Democrats need to stress economic security for American families and clean government. Democrats need to stop condescending "rednecks" and Evangelicals. We don't have to win every one of those evangelical votes to turn a few red states blue, just enough of them.

And since many of those Evangelicals who aren't comfortable with abortion or gay rights are also WalMart employees who are getting screwed in the aardvark by Republicans, the Democrats should be able to formulate a message that is less threatening in one respect and more hopeful in another.

13. Those kind of folks really hate being played for fools
My take: they are really responding to Paul's hard-nosed stance against bush as a reckless lying chickenhawk

15. Howard Dean came to Boise Idaho for krysakes.
That was about three weeks ago. I biked over to the park and he showed up on a hot day with all 300 Idaho dems on hand. As time passes I realize what a big deal that was. I feel personally challenged to put up for the effort. He came to the bright red city of Boise and said "We can do it. I'm here telling you we can!" I think that is what is called leadership.
