6. It's in the last paragraph in this article:
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 09:48 PM by cyberpj
but not quite the same exact words:

At the Hamilton County Board of Elections, election officials said their biggest problem Tuesday was fielding scores of calls from voters who live in the 1st Congressional District, complaining that they went to their regular polling places and found them closed.

8. Perhaps it's because the election is in the 2nd Congressional District...
not the 1st.

10. Why would the polling places be open in the 1st district?
Isn't this a special election in the 2nd district only?

9. This, from an earlier story:
After all six other counties in the district had completed their ballot counts in what was a low-turnout election, Schmidt’s home county, Clermont, had reported a little more than half of its precincts.

“I have no idea what is going on over there,’’ said Hamilton County Board of Elections chairman Tim Burke. “I don’t know what their problem is.’’

Hackett, the Cincinnati lawyer and Iraq war veteran, won Brown, Adams, Scioto and Pike counties. In Hamilton County, the largest of the seven counties, Schmidt had a 51 percent to 49 percent margin, about 1,400 votes.

“We’re still hopeful,’’ said Hackett campaign manager David Woodruff. “It’s not over yet.’’

4. This time we can't let them get away with it. We cannot afford to. If we
do, it's all lost.

11. Hate to rain on tinfoil hats, but that's far from unusual in an election
Half of what we end up doing is reminding people where they're supposed to be voting, and on election day helping people get to the right polling place.

It's usually worse in special elections, because they usually have many fewer polling places.
