Bayh tests Iowa
Bayh tests Iowa
Tom Walker/Eyewitness News Washington Bureau

Des Moines, Iowa, August 2, 2005 - Indiana Senator Evan Bayh is testing the waters of presidential politics in Iowa this week. He was in Des Moines Tuesday for the start of a three-day swing through the Hawkeye state.

Bayh today called his trip to Iowa the beginning of a conversation with the people here. Iowa, of course, is an important state on the road to the White House because of the caucuses that come before any other primary three years from now. A strong showing here could make Bayh a serious contender in a hurry.

If this visit is the beginning of a conversation, Senator Bayh began it by talking about a stronger national defense, economic opportunity, but also values, as he stood with law enforcement officials across from the Iowa state capitol to call for more action against the drug abuse that plagues the heartland.

"What we can do, like combatting methamphetamine, doing other things to make sure our communities aren't just more secure or prosperous but also more decent and compassionate and just," Bayh said.

2. He's a DLC "progressive centrist" milquetoast
Get that lukewarm GOP-lite fuck out of Iowa so we can make room for some real Democrats in the field.

4. Bayh is the former Chair of the DLC
When Bayh was Governor of Indiana, he build a centrist record. Bayh was a refreshing change when compared with the GOP idiots we had prior to him in the Governor's mansion. Compared to the crypto-nazi Mitch Daniels, Bayh looks like a raving New Dealer.

Bayh got a lot of Republicans votes every time he ran.

5. It would be HIGHLY entertaining if the DNC
makes some changes to the primary schedule... Now that would really liven it up and make everybody focus on what's important! The side benefit would be watching the DLC come unglued. :silly:

6. combatting meth ??? Uhh, he's sounding prettt wimpy alreadyt. We don't
need another candidate that blends into the wall. We need a candidate that can really inspire passion to vote. I just don't want to go through another 2000 and 2004 again in 08. Can't do it again.
