What Maine Repubs say about us
The RIGHT makes nutty assertions?

Go hang out at Democratic Underground for a few hours. You'll learn that jet contrails are actually some form of chemical, purpose yet unknown but certainly of evil intent; that Bush is somehow simultaneously the world's stupidest and brilliantly evil man; that Cheney is a rapist who hunts humans for sport; that Gore won Florida and Kerry won Ohio... And let's not forget some of the more interesting statements by more 'mainstream' people on the left, such as Kennedy, Reid, Pelosi, McKinney, Durbin, etc. I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

I hate to give them the hits but the site is: http://www.asmainegoes.com/ubb-scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=28&t=001615&p=2

1. Wow, I haven't heard the jet contrails stuff in quite some time

Oh, and George is neither the stupidest NOR the most brilliantly evil man...he's so hopelessly mediocre, the best he'll aspire to is "malleable."

8. I gotta admit I was very embarrassed by the contrail stuff.
...as I'm sure at least a few others were.

That's one difference between our side and their side -- I have never, ever heard a Repub be ashamed or embarrassed by stupid sayings or misdeeds by their own.

But I'm going to have to search the archives; I didn't know "jet contrails are actually some form of chemical, purpose yet unknown but certainly of evil intent"

5. I completely understand
I take the plunge into their world cautiously. Part of the "keep your enemies closer" mentality.

But let us know if you find out anything about the contrails. ;)

9. Everyone one of my neighbors is a Maine republican
I live in one of the reddest counties in Maine; it also boasts the distinction of being the poorest county in the nation. My neighbors believe that any indication of political curiosity is a sign of dementia. If not for Mr. Z and the internet, I could live my life free from all political conservations until the week before any election. There is a complete disconnect that politics impacts the lack of jobs, and their children's' futures.

Now local gossip, hunting and tree-huggers, that is part of every kitchen-table jaw session.

My neighbors love bush, but think that big-money is ruining their country. They believe that Saddam had to be behind 911, but are sure that this is an oil war. They hate NAFTA, but will vote for Snowe and keeping a republican majority. They think the war is a bogus mess, but that we had to "kill them there." If you think that their thoughts are contradictory, I assure you it is but the tip of the iceberg.

These are wonderful people who are in no way stupid, but politics and politicians in their minds are completely crooked, and the Democrats are just bigger crooks than the republicans.

Fundamentalist Christians are everywhere.

10. Sounds like some Republicans I know
and some Democrats unfortunately.

Particularly what you said here:

These are wonderful people who are in no way stupid, but politics and politicians in their minds are completely crooked, and the Democrats are just bigger crooks than the republicans.

Unfortunately most people just don't take or have the time to educate themselves about the world enough to make sound decisions and even when they try, the choices are so mind-boggingly indeterminate it is easier to just follow long held practices in voting.

13. An example:
72% of the people who voted for bush thought that he was infavor of importing cheap drugs from Canada.

General Clark was not organized in Maine, a caucus state where organization is everything; but getting my neighbors to vote for him was effortless, especially among republicans. Why? The number one reason, a reason often cited against him among Dem. activists, is that he was not a politician. That was all they needed to know. They also think the Clintons are in league with the Chinese. <----I have no clue?

BTW, Clark took my caucus with the only holdouts being the volunteer fireman who were committed because of the Kerry endorsement.

17. Yup.....
He was a computer wonk who used to trick people into giving out their e-mail account passwords so he could break into their personal information. His political discussions would revolve in circles where he would try to confuse the issue ten times before wrapping up with some boneheaded theory. Truly, one of the most slimy human beings I ever met......

11. God forbid
the Democratic party being a big tent where all points of view are welcomed. Just because people talk about issues that aren't mainstream doesn't mean that we all walk lockstep to them. Unlike the repukes who would march off a cliff if their leaders wanted them too. What unAmerican thinking! And in Maine too! Where is that Yankee love for civil liberties? More and more I am beginning to realize that republicanism is a mental disorder that needs to be treated.
