"It's the Economy" -- My Letter to the Dean People
I think all the candidates need to focus less on Iraq on more on domestic issues, especially economic ones. The economy is the Dem's strength and is what can win in November. Being a Dean supporter, I just sent the following message through his website:
Dean Needs to Focus on Economic Agenda!

I just made my fourth contribution to Dr. Dean. I am all behind him and am hoping for an upset in NH tomorrow.

But economics are the key to winning. THIS should be the message. There's too much talk about positions on Iraq and not enough about why the country is in economic trouble and how to get it back on track. This stance ("I will fight for you") is what brought Al Gore back from 18 points down in the polls.

This is Dean's strength! He is the only governor in the race. He is a fiscal conservative who has worked with corporations to keep jobs in Vermont but has never been owned by them.

I believe he will fight for the average voter against corporate interests. That is my #1 reason for supporting him.

Please work on changing the message. This is not about tit-for-tat jabs at other candidates. It's about the specifics of how to make America better for its citizens.

Thanks for listening. On to victory in November!
Just sharing.

4. I Don't Know If I'm Imagining It
but I have the impression that the Dean campaign does listen. I wrote them twice -- about job flight and about getting on Leno and Letterman last week, and the issues were addressed the following day.

Probably synchronicity, who knows? If they pick up the economic thread tomorrow, it will begin to get creepy.

5. I am a Dean supporter but I have always had one thing holding me back
It is his economic policies. Not because I disagree but because I think it creates an elect-ability problem. I know that middle class taxpayers didn't really get a tax break. Yes their income taxes were lowered but other taxes and fees at the local and state level went up. Dean says this, but people don't hear it. Finally, my mom pointed out something good to me that made me re-think it.

When Dean eliminates the tax cuts for the middle class, he points out that state taxes went up, college tuition went up, sales tax went up, etc. So the tax "cut" was made up in other ways. The question is this: Once Dean gets rid of the tax cut, how will he ensure that the taxes and fees that were raised are subsequently lowered? If he can't, then he is raising the taxes of the middle class.

Clinton: Bush's economic plans threaten U.S. growth
Associated Press

SUNRISE, Fla. - The United States will not continue its leadership in the world unless it grows economically, former President Clinton said Sunday, adding that President Bush's economic policies threaten expansion.

Pointing to the balanced budget he achieved during his administration, Clinton said it helped achieve "the longest economic expansion in history."

He said Bush's tax cuts are causing huge deficits and threatening the retirement benefits of average Americans. He warned the deficits would have to be repaid by today's children.

"They are giving me $87,000 in cut taxes from some middle-class guy's Social Security benefits and borrowed money," Clinton told a highly partisan crowd of about 2,000 who paid up to $250 to hear the former president. "This is crazy."
(snip/...)

This is the same thing that Dean has said...others have now voiced the same that we can't keep these massive tax cuts and stay $$$ healthy.

What Dean does say it's a two step process...balance the budget with the these tax reversions...and then redo the "tax code" so that it's fair.

I can't say what it will be...but..Dean get's the fact that tax breaks for small business help them hire...raises in min wage are a must...reductions in health care or a new one is important. He gets it.

And anyone that is "touting tax cuts as thee way"...I don't trust them.
