Why We Need Evan Bayh In 2008

He was re-elected to the senate with 62% of the vote in a redder than red state.

He's a former governor.

He's proven that he can reach out to moderates and sane-thinking hoosiers in a way no other democrat could. Put it this way: he was even able to convince hardcore Republicans that a Democrat was better in that seat than a Republican would have been. That's skill.

He can reach out to the political center, which is exactly what John Kerry didn't do and what we need to do in '08 if we want to win.

He's attractive on the surface and seeming the All-American "wholesome" type. Republicans cant really criticize him personally.

All this adds up to only one conclusion:

:patriot: Bayh for President '08 :patriot:

1. Well why don't we just cut to the chase and vote
... for the republican candidate. Save ourselves lots of money and work for the same results.

than Evan. No Dem candidate will scare off more of our base than he.

Fuck the DLC, corporate whores.

What has Evan done, that makes him even close to deserving my vote?

5. Very wholesome...
Ken, "Barbie" and twin sons. Very likeable but I can't say that he's accomplished much as governor or senator.

and is as dull as paint drying.
REPUBLICANS DON'T WIN ELECTIONS BY GOING TO THE CENTER! Why should we?

11. So who would you all like to run?
I hear a lot of griping about moderate candidates, but no alternatives. Evan Bayh is not the answer, but I do agree we need a consensus candidate that can win some red states. Hillary is not the one either, so who? I am preemptively disqualifying Barak Obama; he will not run in '08.

20. Wes Clark
A liberal perceived as a moderate who could flip a red state (or two or three).
No senatorial voting baggage.
Tons of executive experience running NATO.
Tons of national security and foreign policy experience.
A masters degree in economics, philosophy and politics.
A handsome devil.
And, just the slightest hint of a Southern-to-mid-Western accent that will be appreciated by rural voters.

THAT'S WHO!

23. Yeah, Obama isn't running until at least 2012...
assuming we don't elect a Democrat in 2008.

13. He would probably do quite well...
Even some Repubs would vote for him. What if he did win? Would he listen to the Democratic leadership or the Republican leadership? I really don't think it makes a whole lot of difference who wins on the Democratic side, frankly. Actually, he may stand a better chance than many other Democrats.

14. Buh-Bayh!
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 09:31 PM by Alexander
Paul Hackett turned a 65% Republican district into a narrow 52% win for Schmidt. All this while attacking Bush, attacking the war and using forceful language to fight back at the Republicans.

This goes to show we need outspoken Dems who do not apologize for their behavior and take clear stances on issues which distinguish them from Republicans.

Bayh is useless. So he MIGHT carry Indiana, because he's from there. Big freakin' deal; with the right candidate we should be able to carry it without him.

He has less charisma than Gore, less political acumen than his father, and is to the right of the Democratic Party on almost every issue.

The only reason the DLC is this powerful is because CLINTON WON. Not the DLC. CLINTON. Because he's a fucking terrific politician.

Bayh is no Bill Clinton.

15. no thanks
If we are going for the all-american wholesome type, I would much prefer Edwards who at least has some populist tendencies. IMHO Bayh is a DINO. And I mean no disrespect; just calling it as I see it.

16. I think that you have every right to
support the Centrist Moderate Conservative Republican lite Dino Weak kneed lifelong politico if you so choose.

It's almost a free country, after all....for now.

I, on the other hand, only see a twerp with a silly grin on his face talking about nothing and doing nothing that's of any use to his party except if it's good for his own political future.

He stands for nothing......at all. And standing for nothing is why we lose.

19. You know, reporting statements or event are one thing if you like the guy
but these rah rah posts are kinda early, don't you think?

I personally try to stick to Kerry news myself. These spontaneous "We need blank!" threads can be so divisive.

Can we work on 2006 first please?

Where is his substance? Where is his genuine, from-the-heart appeal to a positive vision?
