Poll question: Who speaks for you? |
|
There are those Democratic lawmakers like Joe Biden who says that "Howard Dean does not speak for me." There are those people out there that keep slamming true Democrats in slamming Howard Dean. There are also those people who stand up and say proudly. "Howard Dean speaks for me." Who speaks for you?

1. I tend to agree with both of their reasonings. |
|
Basically, I understand where each of them is coming from and generally think they both have very good points. So, you could say either both speak for me, or neither speaks for me... kind of a glass half empty/half full thing.

3. Dean was DLC for a long time, helping out IBM, privatizing energy co's. |

He talks more about firing up average people now, but when it came down to making policy all those years as governor, it's not like he was putting the interest of the people before VT's big employers and investors.
I like the way Dean talks now (and he has said that he regrets the favors he did for IBM) but the DLC really doesn't care how you talk so long as you are not shifting the tax burden on to corporations or interfering with their ability to make a lot of money.

Because he's the leader of the party. I don't hate the DLC or anything.

I admire or disagree with others on particular issues, but no one speak for me. Of those listed, I have great admiration for Bill Moyers in particular, but since there are countless issues I've never heard him discuss, I couldn't possible say he "speaks for me."

However, the whole business of "centrists" jumping Dean everytime he calls out Republicans is just nuts. And I wish Durbin had not apologized.

I wouldn't say that I'm always in line with where Dean stands, though I definitely support Dean's approach to politics more than I support that of the DLC. And I like Howard Dean for his backbone and willingness to stand up for what he believes. Yes, he doesn't always make the best word choices when speaking, but the Dem moderates who take every opportunity that they can to dump on Dean, and thus allow the media to spread rumors of major infighting and rifts within the Democratic Party, hurt the party far more than Dean's outbursts do, IMHO.

How can anybody speak for us? If this is truly a democracy, it is incumbent upon each of us to ferret out the truth and to assimilate the information and arrive at our own opinion. I can tell you the Dem Party is a big tent and not all of us agree on everything down the line. Nobody faxes us talking points. That would make us Republicans! I just hope the so-called far-lefties make peace with the party and that we can all work together to kick the every lovin' shit out of the Republicans every chance we get.
