Anyone else doing the State Fair Dem Party Booth this year |
|
I am, and it will be my first time.
Anybody else a first timer?
Anybody got any stories about how it can go and how you handle driveby Republicans who either shout things over their shoulders at you, or want to engage you in heated debate? Do you go for it? That sort of stuff.
Just another way I'm trying to support the local party, or rather the Bryan Kennedy campaign, since it's his campaign's day at the fair that I volunteered for. Go Bryan! Oust Sensenbrenner!

Wave, smile, tell them to have a nice day....
I'm doing the Central Wisconsin State Fair for our County unit...I did it last year too. The "drive-bys" don't bother me as much as the "stealth Repugs who try to engage you in a conversation that seems innocent (like asking questions) but you quickly figure out that they're planted questions...to them I usually respond by asking "Are all Repubs assholes or is it just you?"

3. I stood around them for a while |
|
and ran for supplies from the Kerry campaign when it was obvious that they didn't have any Kerry swag, and was exposed to some of the things Repubs will shout over their shoulders. Usually pro-life things, to which the worker would shout back "Um, yeah, have a nice day." Like you said.
Another insisted that there was a law that made it illegal to mention either of our Russ' names in campaign ads (Darrow or Feingold) and that this was an infringment of his civil rights. It's hard to argue when you don't know what the flying fuck someone is talking about, and you're pretty sure he has whatever it is twisted up in his little mind.
I'm thinking about wearing my Kerry GOTV t-shirt if it still fits. Or maybe me "Real Deal" shirt. Otherwise, hopefully, the Party will have some.

2. No advice about how to handle the Repugs but be sure to |
|
go to the Anti-choice booth and the Crazy Christian booths and pick up a stack of lit - walk around the corner and throw it away. Do it every chance you get and send your friends to do same.
