Bush dismisses al-Qaeda warning
Friday, 5 August 2005, 01:45 GMT 02:45 UK
US President George W Bush has brushed aside demands from Osama Bin Laden's deputy that the US leave Iraq, saying the US would "complete the job" there.

Ayman al-Zawahri warned that there would be further violence unless the US and its allies withdrew from Iraq.

His comments were made in a videotape broadcast on the Arab satellite television network al-Jazeera.

Mr Bush dismissed Zawahri's ideology as "dark, dim and backwards" and said Iraqis wanted to live in freedom.

3. It's hard work
Listening to Al Qaeda.

Seriously, after 9/11, Bush should have done two things, in my opinion: 1) go with the full force of American power (hard and soft) against those who had perpetrated those attacks; and 2) commit an abundance of resources into protecting American soil, including shoring up vulnerable targets and ports and borders.

He has failed miserably on both counts. Instead of finishing the job in Afghanistan, he went after Iraq, a pre 9/11 target if there ever was one. And instead of putting American resources into protecting our country, he cut taxes and as a result spending on things like port security and first responders have gone down.

Republicans, as usual, have it all wrong. George W. Bush is the one who did not learn the lessons of September 11. Pre 9/11, Iraq and tax cuts might have made sense (I disagree, but there's at least a reasonable argument there). After 9/11, Bush's obstinance in pursuing his pre 9/11 goals should be considered treasonable.

2. Yeah but I think that is exactly his plan
He's going to repeat 2000 all over again but he thinks we are too stupid to see it coming in advance. Somebody should ask him why Osama Bin Laden is still alive to be saying anything at all. These idiots, these freaken idiots.

5. It wasn't Osama - it was Zack-attack's words - but good point
I think this was Zaqauri who issued the challenge. He's the new Dr. Evil, the one whose going to blow up something in America and get us all behind the war. Didn't you get the memo?

4. How is this news?
The article basically says, Zack-attack told Bush to get out. Bush told him to shove it. Hasn't Zack-attack been telling Bush this everyday with his explosions and dead soldiers? How is this news? Sounds like propaganda to me.

6. I swear, I think that the tapes that are sent to Al-Jazerra
are ones sent in by our government and that the people speaking on those tapes are hired actors.

I know it sounds strange and paranoid but I felt like this since 9/11. To tell you the truth, I think bin Laden is dead.

9. I actually read somewhere that the gov't gots a bin Laden look-alike
and they tape him making threats and then they send it off. That's why the vid feed is so blurry and that the always has a nice, clean looking wall behind him. Anyone ever notice the walls? If he is hiding, wouldn't it be in a cave or in a dingy, dirty building. WTF is up with the walls?

12. The last video was CGI
Computer graphic imaging. They superimposed his head onto a stand-in body. It was actually poorly done. Thier programmer must not understand the concept of free-form sprites. Fuckin amatuers.

18. Thanks that just confirmed my gut feelings that he is dead.
He has to be, his health was bad. Also I don't think he was evil incarnate, just misguided and therefore either has been reincarnated or is having to deal with the victims in the hereafter.

14. dear mr. bush, i think the Iraqis want to live in freedom too, but i have
a feeling that their idea of freedom doesn't match your vision of endless war and destruction. imposing freedom on people might just be a tich much, don't you think, mr. president? howzabout next time we just let people get freedom for themselves, mm-kay? your method leaves a stinking trail of dead people in a big, big hurry, and it's generating a whole new breed of "freedom-hatin' terra-ists."

Saying Iraqis want to live in freedom has nothing to do with the al qaeda warnings. Next thing you know Rove will be blaming Plame and Wilson for the taped warnings, on deep background of course.

16. This Is Par for the Course for the President
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 08:40 PM by CrackpotAmerica
What we must all understand is that this President and his constituency are not from a world or culture that is based in reality. Rather, these are people who have had the benefit of wealth, status, power, or any combination of the three for most, if not all, of their lives.

The reality of these people is one of complete ignorance and lack of understanding for what I assume they would call "the common man." The only method these people can use to try to assimilate with the reality of the typical American is to bring up the hard working "steel mill" and "Jim Crow" histories of those whom they appoint. In all actuality, the President has never experienced a broke month, an African American community., nor an Islamic value. He has had no struggle. He has earned no character nor dignity for himself. He has never unwillingly been forced to accomplish anything to sustain himself nor his family.

His world is nothing short of imperial. He is a noble in his own mind. One who feels he and his counterparts have been appointed by the creator to choose and delineate the morality and direction of the world. To him, everyone outside of his world is "they." To him, the complexity of our great and diverse world can only be seen in black and white. And so, he has chosen to ignore the desperation and poverty that leads young men and wormen to serve these atrocious organizations who slaughter innocent people, who hold the same disturbing belief in their own divinity. He merely condemns them all as "evil," just as those despicable men of power on the opposite side do.

The result is what we see today. Thousands of American heroes robbed of their greatest possession. Tens of thousands of innocent people lying in vast graves. Thousands more tortured and falsely imprisoned. Millions of American citizens holding on to the last scraps of their civil rights.

We must put an end to this imperial culture within our highest offices in government. The alternative, which we shall all witness, will be a grave and detrimental legacy to our children.
