So shoot me. I like Springer's fill in, Jay Marvin, better than Springer |

4. Unfortunately Chicagoans have been exposed to Jay the last few years. |
|
He was on a RW station who worked either side of Rush. He was often paired with RW hosts and was not the advocate he is now or before that in Milwaukee. He played a similar role to Alan Colmes in my opinion.

5. Me too. I can't stand Springer and long for AAR to make amends |
|
He's about as progressive as Ed Koch, and I'd much rather listen to him three hours a day five days a week. He repeatedly tells his audience how much he admires * and doesn't question his integrity and commitment to the US. In the old days he'd be called bourgeois. He's not rich enough to be called a limousine liberal.
Most of all, I am grateful that Jay Marvin is not Jerry Springer. For that fact alone he is well-suited to replace him, though if Rachel Maddow found herself in Springer's time slot I wouldn't complain.

6. I don't like Springer at all. |
|
I give his TV show alot of the blame for bringing the quality of discourse in this country down to its current level.
I'm not too familiar with Jay Marvin, but figure he must be better than Springer. I think he's also a local (Colorado) boy. I'll try to listen to him more if I get the time, even though I don't get AAR in my new abode.

7. Have you ever listened to Stephanie Miller, wyldwolf? |
|
I've haven't really listened to Springer because when AAR switched shows I tried listening to Stephanie and love her so much I've never tried Jerry. I also had a semi-local channel start that has her on in Springer's time slot.
She is hilarious.

8. Speaking of fill-ins... |
|
They broadcast Stephanie Miller instead of Springer here in Madison, and she's been on vacation, too. And after a week of Johnny Wendell filling in for Stephanie Miller, I'm starting to tire a bit of him.
He's very professional, and has the 'angry guy' thing down. Appropriately 'leftist' (but no Pacifica).
The thing is, I'm starting to see that every show he has a 'gripe topic of the day' thing. He doesn't title a segment that way or anything, like Miller or Franken might, but just has some mildly controversial topic every day that he wants to gripe abou throughout the show. It's the sort of stuff that's meant to stir up discussion (and callers). It's not current events stuff, but things like "I hate the homogenization of our culture...how bout you?" Not really something you're ever going to find an answer for on talk radio, but you can argue about it forever. And it's usually what most of his callers talk about.
What he ends up with is a show that sounds angry and liberal, but ultimately signifies nothing to me. It sounds very practiced (and I'm sure it is -- he's very good at it), but it doesn't feel very authentic.
In some ways, it reminds me of a local talk jock here in Madison -- 'Sly'-- who does the same sort of thing, but with local topics (though Sly is occasionally relevant).
Stephanie Miller 'goofs around' more, but is more current and topical overall. She manages to get a lot of good phone interviews with public figures, too.
I liked Johnny Wendell more Monday than after listening to him all week. I'm looking forward to Stephanie and crew returning next week, and I'm kind of surprised about it.
