Please stop all the manic crap on '08; the midterms are more important |
|
The most significant event in our political lives of the last twenty years was the '94 midterm election when Gingrich and his band of primitives swept the House. (Okay, maybe the thievery of '00, but I think you get the point...)
I'm sick to death of hearing about who can or can't win the presidency the next time around. Such focus is the stuff of celebrity worshipers.
Power rests in the House, and it's so close now it's ridiculous. We probably can't take back the Senate next time around. Big deal. Maybe we can, and working to do so is a good thing, but taking the House is VERY POSSIBLE. If we pick up less than twenty seats out of 435, we control EVERYTHING. The Republicans have followed a scorched-earth policy where Dems have no voice in anything. We will control the subpoena and investigation powers. Don't you want to see Junior under oath? I do. The various scandals will hamstring these people for the rest of their very lame duck tenure.
Tar every man-jack of them as pro-torture, pro-treason, anti-people, anti-environment greedheads bent on looting the country for their personal gain, and we can pick off many of them.
There is only one battle more important than this, and that's making all voting verifiable. Even if that can't be done, there's enough anger and frustration out there that can be mobilized to take control, and then the voting issue will be ours to settle.

I like the 2008 threads. Unless Admin tells me to do otherwise, I'll post, read and enjoy them
I'm sorry you (and others) find them so annoying, there is a *hide thread* assistant :smoke:

Please note that I was providing the OP poster, who is the one that obviously doesn't like the 2008 conversation, a constructive "out"...meaning don't just whine about it, do something.
It's very easy to start an OP here, at DU, asking everyone to stop what is being discussed.
It's much more time consuming and difficult to ask the real perpetrators to stop what they are doing. If we didn't hear the constant talk on TV and in the newspapers about 2008, we might not be thinking about here so much at DU.
The pundits are manipulating things again.
So I didn't say that I found them annoying.....OP poster did.

Soviet Politburo. The districts have been gerrymandered to be absolutely safe. How many are legitimately up for grabs? I would like to see that. If there were Forty republican seats up for grabs and the Dems could get half, while holding there own seats that would be nice. I'm just not sure how many are Repubs are beatable in their districts.
Maybe Paul Hackett helped give us an answer.

The Smug Pugs have totally dismissed the Democratic Party for 6 years now (nothing can get a hearing; Sensenbrenner and Blunt act like dictators, etc) Even if we succeed in electing a Dem president in '08, he (or SHE) will be chained & shackled if we dont control at least one house of Congress. Like you, I'm tired of the infighting "Wes is the only one" "dont count Kerry out" "Hillary is unelectable" "Lately I've been thinking about Edwards" "DLCers are what we need to win over some Republican voters" etc: (you get the picture)

5. We only need five seats to take Senate. And two may come from PA. |
|
Santorum may well lose and Specter could retire. Rendell would appoint a Dem.

The house is not only within reach, it should be ours next year. Congress, especially the GOPers in charge, is held in even more dismay, contempt and dislike than the president.
Now, if we offered a hackett like offensive, combined with truthful statements on how the president has ruined our country, we would sweep the necons out of office.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving group.
My only concern is whether some of the self-proclaimed Dem leaders are up to the task. Dean is, but today's DNC reminds me of the Gang that could not shoot straight.

You pious scolds are getting bloody tiresome. I'm sorry you're not able to walk and chew gum at the same time, but most of us are more coordinated than that.

Also, we need to push for more Democratic Governors. Republican governors have been installing crooked attorney generals whose mission is to cheat on the elections.
