My problem with Kucinich
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 07:10 PM by Mass_Liberal
he is clearly a great guy, and his positions are right on. My one problem with him is that he doesn't make me feel passionate when he speaks. He doesn't excite me.

Kucinich supporters, prove me wrong, hopefully with good video link. I don't mean to offend at all by the way.

1. Really?
I find him quite inspiring. At first everyone got all over him about being shrill and now I am hearing he is boring or not inspiring (you are not the first I have heard this from). Here is a link to a bunch of videos. My personal favorite has always been the "This is the Moment" speech. I hope you find something there but even if you do not I find his ideas stimulating without the fire. I suppose this is one of the things I really do like about him. I really do not care to be screamed at (not a Dean slam, I do not like it from anyone). http://www.kucinich.us/video

13. No No NO
You did not offend me! You also didn't scream at me! I'm sorry if you thought that, I was not meaning that you had. Peace.

2. Excitement is in the eye of the beholder
I do not find Dean that exciting. Some people go ape over him. I am moved by Kerry. Others would be more moved by staring at a pine tree. Eh...

10. Quite true
People say Dumbya is honest and trustworthly, I say Dumbya is dishonest and I wouldnt trust my house or pet to Dumbya espeically a country. I prefer Kucinich and Kerry to Dean for my own reasons but if hes the one, so be it, gonna be telling people to vote for him.

9. That is so funny.

Dean totally turns me off, not just his policies but his delivery. I am not viscerally inspired at all by Kerry but he is my #2, again I think I am much more easily inspired by a quite, well thought out delivery. Never cared for the cheerleading approach.

Edit I am not being very clear tonight sorry added a word

3. Plenty of video at his website.
http://www.kucinich.us

There are plenty of folks who hear Dennis in person, who do not agree with you. Check out Will Pitt's exceptional article. This is why I think we're so fortunate to have Dennis out there on the road.

Thanks, Will, for another wonderful article.

4. Have you seen him speak, aside from at a debate?
I've seen him several times, and every time I was quite inspired, and so was everyone else present. One time, at an AFL-CIO he came on right after Dean, and while Dean got a good response, the crowd went crazy while Kucinich was speaking.

Here's a link to his Prayer for America speech, it's kind of long but it's good. Also at his website (www.kucinich.us) there's a ton of videos.

8. You gotta see the videos (or see him in person)
the debates are just a joke, especially since they barely give him any time to speak at all most of the time!

I've seen him on videos numerous times, and live once, and he can truly move the crowd to tears with the power of his convictions. Definately check out the video links posted here though. They're pretty good.

11. I was undecided when I went to hear him speak
in August 2003.

Ten minutes into his speech, I was in tears. He speaks intelligently, yet passionately, and he manages to be super-smart without sounding like a pointy-headed intellectual. He was masterful during the Q&A session, giving nuanced answers to difficult questions without a script.

A week or two later, I showed up at the Minnesota for Kucinich meeting, and shortly after that, I was pamphleting at the Minnesota State Fair.

I have never done this for any presidential candidate, and I have been voting since 1972.

12. Do let us know
what you think if you listen to some of them. It is interesting to me how different deliveries inspire different folks. I wonder if anyone has a link to some kind of study done on this, I am sure there must be many.

14. you need to see him live in person
If you still are unexcited then I'd be confused.

But if you can't find him in person there is some pretty great video out there on the web:

This is the Moment is a powerful video about Dennis Kucinich -- his history, issues and campaign. It is hosted by actor Hector Elizondo and features Ed Asner, James Cromwell and Mimi Kennedy.
http://www.kucinich.us/thisisthemoment.htm

But better to watch video of Dennis on stump and particularly Q & A.

Official library here, go to stuff listed at bottom as "Videos from other sources:"
http://www.kucinich.us/video/

A couple other libraries . . .

http://kucinichwatch.com/video.htm

Check out progressive gala with Danny Glover & Barbara Lee, the best stuff is Q & A after stump speech . . .

15. Dennis is my candidate
yet i can sympathize with folks who expect him to be a dynamic vigorous speaker... as i find him myself somewhat dry, yet totally sincere... i guess you have to ACT and fake it to be too sincere. Clinton was a professional passionate liar, and he din't do a thing for me... dennis, however, speaks to the soul, not the emotions.

Unfortunately the truth is simply too deep for facile america.
